Facebook, WhatsApp and YouTube lead the top of the most used platforms in Peru

Twitter is surprisingly last on the list of social networks with the highest participation in the country

When talking about social network, what comes to mind in the first place are sites like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn or apps like TikTok and Instagram , typical of today. But there are also platforms such as YouTube or instant messaging apps, be they WhatsApp or Telegram. Precisely, users in each country have different inclinations, and in the case of Peru, Meta's star social network leads social platforms, as well as WhatsApp the most used messaging application in the country, according to data collected from Kepios made in February 2022.

Data published on Meta's advertising resources indicate that Facebook had 24.80 million users in Peru at the beginning of 2022. The audience figures reviewed by the aforementioned portal mean that the reach of Facebook users in Peru was equivalent to 74% of the total population at the beginning of 2022.

However, Facebook restricts the use of its platform to people aged 13 or older, so it's also worth noting that 93.9% of the 'eligible' audience in Peru used Facebook in 2022. A very interesting fact is that at the beginning of 2022, 47.8% of the Facebook audience in Peru was female, while 52.2% were male.

In second place is WhatsApp. In Peru, there are 13.7 million social media users and 85% of them have WhatsApp accounts. Thanks to this statistic, it can be deduced that people have a greater preference to chat, make voice calls and video calls. Even the way to communicate with stickers is a great way to have fun with friends, family and even a couple.

In third place is YouTube. Google updates indicate that YouTube had 17.50 million users in Peru at the beginning of 2022. This figure means that YouTube's reach in 2022 was equivalent to 52.2% of Peru's total population at the beginning of the year. The presence of this video platform proprietary by Google is one of the favorites among Peruvians thanks to the 'Shorts'. The modality to enjoy videos is the great novelty that helps to attract more people's attention, being able to spend hours and hours on the platform of videos.

To put those figures into perspective, YouTube users reached 79.9% of Peru's total Internet user base (regardless of age) in January 2022. As in the previous data, 49.6% of YouTube users in Peru were female, while 50.4% were male.

In fourth place you can find Facebook Messenger. All Meta applications apply the same restriction on people 13 years of age or older. In this case, the reach of Facebook Messenger users in Peru is equivalent to 64.6% of the local Internet user base (14.15 million).

In fifth place is TikTok. By context, ByteDance figures indicate that TikTok users reached 51.2% of all adults aged 18 and over in Peru in early 2022. Meanwhile, the reach of TikTok in Peru is equivalent to 55.6% of the local Internet user base (12.17 million users aged 18 and over) at the beginning of the year, regardless of age.

In sixth place is another Meta application: Instagram. The numbers published in Meta's own statistics indicate that Instagram had 8.90 million users in Peru at the beginning of 2022. This figure suggests that the reach of Instagram users in Peru was equivalent to 26.6% of the total population at the beginning of the year.

However, and like Facebook and Messenger, Instagram restricts the use of its platform to people aged 13 or older, so it's useful to know that the 'eligible' audience represents 33.7% of users in Peru who use Instagram in 2022. It is also worth noting that the reach of Instagram users in Peru in early 2022 is equivalent to 40.7% of the local Internet user base (regardless of age).

LinkedIn and Snapchat rank seventh and eighth with 31.1% share and 13.2% of users in Peru while, for many it will be a surprise, Twitter ranks ninth and last on the list with only 10, 1% participation in the social network nationwide (2.20 million users).
