Holy Week culminates with the arrival of Easter Sunday when Jesus was resurrected after being crucified on Good Friday. Moreover, this day was the last day that Christ was in human form on Earth.
Peru is one of the countries with the greatest religious fervor and during Holy Week many believers seek to fill themselves with faith and remember the life, passion and death of Christ, as indicated in the Bible. However, despite this, it is normal to find people who do not know the meaning of Resurrection Sunday.
EASTER SUNDAY
Easter was born with the Catholic Church and begins on Saturday and is the strongest season of the year, lasting 50 days. The meaning of easter is Christ's passage from death to life, and his final step to eternity and glory.
Its origin dates back to the Liturgical Year, where the Jews had the “feast of weeks” that began in the agricultural sector and which also commemorated the Alliance in Sinai.
That is why in the Catholic religion it is called Easter Sunday, but for those Christians who do not belong to that religion they know it as Easter Sunday.
EASTER BUNNY
In addition to Easter Sunday, there are other names or elements that are obvious and that raise doubts, such as, for example, what is the easter bunny and what is its origin?
This element has a pagan origin and is the ancient festival of Eostre, which celebrated a goddess of fertility and spring, whose animal symbol was a rabbit.
This animal appeared in the United States only in the late 1700s and it was the German immigrants who settled in Pennsylvania who brought the tradition of an egg-laying hare called “Osterhase”.
It is said that children prepared nests for the rabbit to lay eggs that came out of color and only appeared in the nests of those who behaved well.
EASTER EGGS
We already know the meaning of the easter bunny and part of easter eggs.
The Catholic Church has also given their own meaning to easter eggs. When the eggs broke and the shell became empty, it is compared to the tomb of Christ, which also became empty after the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
WHY ARE EASTER EGGS HIDING?
Easter eggs are hidden in order for children to find them.
These are hidden early on Easter Sunday and then the little ones in the household must place them. Those who locate it is because they have behaved well.
Nowadays this tradition has spread. It is common to see Easter chocolate egg decorations in supermarkets during these times.
