Deputy Andrés Pintos Caballero announced his withdrawal from the Green Ecologist Party prior to the vote on the Electricity Reform this Sunday, April 17 in the Chamber of Deputies.
It has transpired that Pintos Caballero would join the ranks of Movimiento Ciudadano, one of the first benches to be present at the plenary session this Sunday. However, their integration into MC has not yet been confirmed.
A letter that has been circulated on social networks shows the withdrawal of the now former PVEM MP, who argued that his decision is made with the aim of seeking a space in Nuevo León where he can influence the issues “that he is passionate about”.
In this way, under the provisions of Article 6, paragraph 1, section XII of the Regulations of the Chamber of Deputies, Pintos Cabellero presented his withdrawal from the party he joined in 2021. It should be recalled that Andrés Pintos was elected deputy of the 7th district of García, Nuevo León, after he registered his application under alleged visual impairment.
Although the news broke just before the Electricity Reform vote began, its name still appears within the PVEM Parliamentary Group at the roll call this Sunday, April 17. Faced with the media questioning about his departure from the Green Ecologist Party, Andrés Pintos said it was a decision he made for the benefit of Mexico.
He stressed that he had already spoken with the governor of Nuevo Leon, Samuel Garcia, about his decision and recalled that when the Ukrainian ambassador to Mexico came, he was the only one present, so that the vote on this Electric Reform was “the last straw that shed the glass”, he said in the Chamber of Deputies.
Previously, the orange bench had warned that it would vote against the reform of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, arguing that, should it be approved, “pollution will increase by up to 65%,” they said prior to the discussion in the Chamber of Deputies.
At the time of their admission, some deputies of the Citizen Movement adorned their seats with yellow flowers in response to the alleged aggressions they have received, said their coordinator Jorge Álvarez Máynez.
To approve this initiative, two thirds of the total votes are needed, so that the Fourth Transformation alliance (Q4) would need the vote in favor of 57 deputies from other parties, since it only has 277 legislators to reach the required 334.
However, opposition deputies have reiterated that their vote will be against the Electricity Reform, and they even spent the night on the outskirts of San Lazaro to avoid the blockade announced by Morena's militants.
This reform will seek to prioritize clean energy and that the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) becomes the State agency in charge of the strategic area of electricity.
