The Association of Tourism Entrepreneurs of the Gulf of Morrosquillo (Asetur GM) made a preliminary assessment of the Easter season, in which it stressed that since Holy Thursday the total occupancy of lodges in the municipality of Coveñas, Sucre has been recorded.

This was confirmed by the president of the tourism sector association, Henry Valencia, to the newspaper El Heraldo, in which he highlighted that between Friday and Saturday there were more tourists entering this Colombian Caribbean town, who hoped to find available accommodation in one of the tourist's favorite tourist destinations. national and foreign nationals.

The president of Asetur GM assured the regional media that until Wednesday there was an occupancy between 60 and 70%, however, since Holy Thursday the total occupancy of hotels and cabins registered with the association was recorded, which would show the recovery of one of the tourist sectors most affected by the covid-19 pandemic.

He also stressed that the strategies adopted by local authorities were relevant for the entry of vehicles into coastal areas because visitors were able to enjoy the beach without interrupting mobility along the road corridors of this municipality in the Gulf of Morrosquillo.

Little by little, the country's tourist destinations are once again presenting figures that show the recovery of one of the most affected sectors in the midst of the covid-19 health crisis, Coveñas, Santa Marta and San Andrés once again record occupancy figures that seek to reach pre-pandemic averages.

Although domestic tourism in the season is usually more common, particularly this year, the growth of international tourists, compared to 2021, is expected to be substantial. This is confirmed by figures from ForwardKeys, which from ProColombia's analysis show a higher number of air bookings, which at the end of the third week of March, indicate a growth of 192.7% compared to Easter 2021.

Mostly from the United States, Mexico, Chile, Costa Rica and Spain, these travelers represent 31,859 air bookings that correspond to 52.8% of the trips that will be made in the country during this season. Likewise, the data indicate that the most visited destinations will be Bogotá, which will receive 19,311 visitors (60.6 per cent of the national total); followed by Cartagena and Medellin, with 4,662 and 4,576 bookings respectively.

“The 2022 Easter season represents a clear step for international tourism in the country from revival to growth. After the most critical months of the pandemic, this year we see a clear increase in the arrival of non-resident visitors, which speaks highly of the joint work between the National Government, the private sector and the unions in promoting Colombia as a destination and in plans to reactivate the sector,” said Flavia Santoro, president of ProColombia.
