Belén Barnechea and Martín Cabello de los Cobos were in the eye of the storm for their apparent 'viceregal' themed wedding. Due to the harsh criticism they received on social media and different media, the daughter of former presidential candidate Alfredo Barnechea came out to defend herself.
The businesswoman used her Instagram account to talk about the issue, stressing that the parade that was seen in the video sought to represent the Moche culture, which is native to the department of La Libertad.
She also indicated that her intention to marry in northern Peru was to show her foreign friends the cultural diversity that exists in our country, so she was quite puzzled to learn that everything had been misrepresented.
“What we did was represent the Moche culture, which is native to La Libertad and developed between the second and seventh centuries. He never crossed paths in time with the Incas or the Spaniards. My maternal grandparents dedicated their lives and efforts to value it for the world. My grandfather Guillermo Ganoza restored Chan Chan and organized the first archaeological exploration of Huaca del Sol y la Luna,” he said.
Belén Barnechea also explained why there were women sitting while they were walking out of the church. According to the businesswoman, it was the recreation of the Dance of the Rope, a dance that symbolizes the works and the way of cultivating the land in ancient times.
“Our intention was and will continue to be to highlight the rich Moche and Chimú culture that we from Trujillo and Peru want to continue showing to the world,” added the politician's daughter.
In addition, to demonstrate her love for northern traditions, Belén published an image in which she appears dancing sailor with a Peruvian paso horse. At another time she shows a video of her wedding celebration, where she goes out next to her husband performing this emblematic dance from northern Peru.
HE SAYS THEY USE THEIR MARRIAGE AS A SMOKESCREEN
Outrage at the harsh comments against their marriage has also outraged the daughter of Alfredo Barnechea, who in her publication also pointed out that all the scandal that has been unleashed has been used as a smokescreen for political purposes, as strikes in the country would be covered up.
“We are very sad that the moche recreation we did in the parade has been distorted in this way and that the situation is being politicized. It hurts us a lot that it is being used as a smokescreen to cover up the serious structural problems and strikes in which our beloved country is (mired) today,” he said.
“If the same force were used these days to denounce the situations of injustice that we live in every day, our country would be a better Peru. That's why I think we should leave bad intentions behind and celebrate love, culture, and diversity,” he said.
