In the midst of questioning the electoral process, Margarita Cabello, the Attorney General of the Nation, invited the presidential candidates to a meeting to answer their doubts, which will be held at the headquarters of the Public Ministry in Bogotá.

The invitation was extended through a letter, which was extended to the eight candidates and their respective formulas, in order to meet next Tuesday morning at a working table, according to the newspaper El Tiempo.

The objective, according to the document, is to “listen and know the concerns they have regarding the guarantees that must be provided by all competent entities in the elections for the Presidency and Vice-Presidency of the Republic to be held on May 29, 2022″, the newspaper quoted.

The Procurator is based on her role in promoting human rights, protecting the public interest and monitoring the official conduct of those who perform public functions, especially the right to participate.

In this regard, they will seek to work on guarantees for the first presidential round, after apparent errors in the process of pre-counting the legislative elections, on March 13, focused doubts about the results and the electoral organization.

Even recently presidential candidate Gustavo Petro requested, through his Twitter account, “formally the Registrar to suspend the pre-count, to appoint all career officials in the country, including teaching staff as juries, and to suspend the contract with Thomas and Gregg for data accounting.”

Although it is no longer possible to suspend the pre-count because it has already ended, the candidate proposes that there be a new way of selecting voting juries and that the company hired for the voting operations be modified.

The Public Prosecutor's Office had already requested a report last week from the Registrar's Office and the National Electoral Council regarding the complete strategic plan for the upcoming presidential elections, in order to prevent and/or mitigate the risks or events presented on March 13.

Likewise, it was announced that more than 1,600 citizen complaints and complaints were filed regarding the elections, in which merit was found to open investigations in 33 of them for alleged irregularities of the voting juries, errors in the registration of ballots, buying votes, constraining the voter and anomalies in the polling stations, among others.

In addition, the meeting is cited after the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation on April 8 announced the opening of a disciplinary investigation against Alexander Vega, the national registrar, for the alleged irregularities that occurred during the legislative elections of March 13.

That announcement was made by the prosecutor, Margarita Cabello, who indicated that the decision was made on the basis of repeated complaints expressed by different citizen and political sectors. “The investigation seeks to determine whether the registrar could commit disciplinary offenses related to alleged irregularities in state selection and recruitment and a possible omission in voting control functions and in the training of juries,” the prosecutor explained through a video.

It only took a few hours for Vega Rocha to come out to confront this situation. In a statement, the official reported that he will comply with the decision of the Public Prosecutor's Office: “We respect and abide by the various determinations of the disciplinary body. It will be an opportunity to demonstrate the proper performance of the electoral organization and its officials at the head of the Registrar's Office in relation to the March 13 electoral contest,” Vega said in his statement.
