Through the TikTok digital platform and due to the work of user Michel Arias, Cooltvura, a series of videos showing sculptures of heads carved in stones in the middle of the forest went viral. The works of art are located in the state of Querétaro and are the work of Mexican artists Fernando Arévalo Uribe and Martin Nieto Uribe.
The account is dedicated to disseminating sites of cultural interest around Mexico, as well as telling interesting facts and stories about historical or iconic sites in the territory. In relation to carved stones, Cooltvura dedicated three short recordings in which he narrates what they are about, where they are, how to get there and the change in the influx of people after his first video clip.
In the first tiktok, Michel tells of his visit to the town of Huimilpan, located near the state border with Guanajuato and Michoacán. There, he assured that it was the inhabitants who informed him of the existence of heads similar to the Olmec or the Moai, on Easter Island, Chile.
The content creator continues his documentation by attesting to how complicated it is to go to the place. In addition to the non-presence of people or tourists. In a second video, Michel, already in the right place after going down a ravine and walking for half an hour, indicates that despite what the locals in the area have assured, these are not old works but recent creations.
“The heads are made by us in the barranquita, thinking about making history, since almost always when you die is when you are recognized, that was the idea and having an attractive place in our community and attracting tourism, so that we could get jobs, that was the purpose, even at that time we were seeing more colleagues, but only the two of us are encouraged,” Martín said in an interview for El Diario de Querétaro.
In the third and final recording you can see a change in the number of people in the place. The influx of people is much greater than what was seen in the first video. “That day we came to record it was completely abandoned, today it is a tourist place full of life”, the creator is heard saying. The exact place to access the site is at kilometer 26 of the 400 race, which runs from Querétaro capital to Huimilpan.
“It was nice for me to capture a woman's face, I was going to be a virgin, but then I didn't go out of neglect and left my face, but I don't want to move her anymore because they already know her that way, we never put signatures, but Fernando and I did them.
“I did the face of a woman on three occasions that I went in the months of February, September and August 2014. We chose the place where they are because it is a pleasant and dignified space for them, since it is surrounded by trees and stones, one enjoys being there, more in the month of June when the heads are covered with moss and everything is green,” said Martín.
