Authorities hit the economy of the National Liberation Army (ELN) hard, as about three tons of drugs were seized, in an operation that found a clandestine mega-laboratory located in Norte de Santander.

The commander general of the National Army, General Eduardo Enrique Zapateiro, was responsible for confirming this severe blow against the ELN. On his social networks he posted: “In forceful #ContraElNarcotráfico work by #CONAT troops, with @Ejercito_Div2, @FuerzaAereaCol and @PoliciaColombia, the illicit economy of the ELN was seized, in #NorteDeSantander, with the seizure of about 3 tons of narcotic drugs #PatriaHonorLealtad.”

This coup against drug trafficking was developed in direct coordination between the National Army, the National Police and the Air Force. In a press release they gave details of how this mega laboratory worth 4 million dollars was destroyed.

“The offensive continues in the constant fight against the factors of instability that intend to affect security in the department of Norte de Santander, this time in the municipality of Tibú, where troops of the Command against Drug Trafficking and Transnational Threats, CONAT, in support of the Second Division, managed to destroy a mega-laboratory that housed more than 2,800 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride and nearly 180 kilograms of coca base paste,” the authorities said in the statement.

According to the information provided by the National Army, after several days of follow-up they managed to locate this place where narcotic drugs were made in the Corinto village in the municipality of Tibú. It was there that the overwhelming blow was made against what would be the Juan Fernando Porras Martínez Front of the ELN.

“Within this rustic structure, more than 3000 gallons of liquid inputs and 4,900 kilograms of solid inputs, such as lime, caustic soda and other chemical precursors used to process the alkaloid, were destroyed,” the National Army said. They also add that “tools and equipment such as hydraulic presses, compressors, microwave ovens, electric pumps and Martians were evident, the latter known in this way for their metal structure, made up of two antennas and used for the distillation of narcotics”.

This complex would be valued at more than four million dollars, money with which these illegal groups seek to illegally finance weapons to attack the security forces and civilians (...) We continue in the frontal and constant fight against drug trafficking throughout the country, demonstrating the capabilities of our Force and being guarantors of the security and tranquility of the nation's inhabitants,” said the Army.

A video published by General Eduardo Enrique Zapateiro showed some details of how this offensive against the ELN and its mega-laboratory was carried out, even in this recording it can be evidenced when a uniformed man conducts a PIPH test on a substance found, throwing “turquoise blue, preliminary for positive cocaine and their derivatives”.
