Pedro Castillo: questioned head of advisers of Government Palace presented his resignation

Wilson Pretel Mostacero presented his letter of resignation from the position of chief of technical staff of the Government Palace on Friday, according to several Peruvian media outlets. As is known, the official is investigated by the Attorney General's Office for joining the alleged 'cabinet in the shadows' that advises President Pedro Castillo.

Recall that on March 10, the Public Prosecutor's Office initiated preliminary proceedings against officials who would be related to the so-called 'Cabinet in the Shadows'. This name refers to what former officials of the Castillo government called it. The investigation is for the alleged crime of criminal organization in aggrievance of the State.

In this case, in addition to Pretel, the deputy secretary of the presidential office, Beder Camacho Gadea, and the communications secretary, Jaime Idrogo Mejía, were also involved. The participation of advisors Rodolfo Ramírez Apolinario, Franco Pomalaya Neyra, Jose Luis Cristóbal Quispe and Sandra Paico Carrasco is also contemplated.

“It is gratifying to write to you to greet you cordially and, at the same time, to present my irrevocable resignation from the position of Chief of Technical Staff of the Presidency of the Republic, appointed by Supreme Resolution No. 177-2021-PCM, dated 20 December 2021, a position that I have carried out with transparency and honesty,” the letter that was leaked to the press.

He adds that the reasons for his resignation are personal. “I must point out that I am submitting my resignation for strictly personal reasons. I am grateful for the trust placed in me that has allowed me to serve the country; and at the same time, I wish it every success in its management”, he says in the letter.

Pretel Mostacero took office during the tenure of former Council of Ministers Minister Mirtha Vasquez. He was a replacement for Augusto Vasquez Cabrera, who resigned from office on December 4, 2021.

WHO IS WILSON PRETEL?

As it appears on the government website, Pretel has held various positions in State entities, such as Consultant, Advisor, Coordinator, Professional, Analyst, among others. He has more than 10 years of work experience in the public sector.

He is a lawyer from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, and a Master's Degree in Constitutional Law from the same house of studies.

He joined the State in 2009 as Analyst II in the Office of the Public Prosecutor of the Judiciary. The following year he was an Assistant to the Congress of the Republic. In 2012, he became a Professional Technical Support in the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, and remained in the same entity between 2013 and 2017 as a professional and between 2017 and 2020 as Coordinator.

In 2020 he returned as an Advisor to the Congress of the Republic and the following year he joined the Puno Regional Government as a Consultant.

THE RELIGIOUS FACTOR

This resignation coincides with the meetings that Cardinal Pedro Barreto held this week with Pedro Castillo. In conversation with the press, the prelate of the Catholic Church said that he proposed to the Government to promote national unity and develop a management that understands all Peruvians and leads to overcoming political confrontations.

“The proposal is a change of course; a course that means national unity and that he is the president of all Peruvians,” he said in statements given to RPP.

Barreto said he had expressed this initiative to the president in a meeting he held the previous day with him at the Government Palace.
