Javier Aguirre is a real character in Spanish football, where he has been characterized as one of the most charismatic and particular strategists, especially for his way of expressing himself, so his press conferences always keep one or the other comical detail.
How could it be otherwise, prior to the “final” that he will play this weekend against Elche for salvation, he decided to add a funny moment to his statements, although this time he took one of his players as a victim.
This is Takefusa Kubo, the midfielder originally from Japan and who at the age of 20 remains the great promise of Asian football, since his card belongs to Real Madrid and he is currently on loan to Mallorca.
Because he has not been a starter in the last few meetings, during the last conference he was asked about how he has seen the development of Kubo in recent days and if he could start this Saturday at the Martínez Valero stadium.
“I really liked what (Kubo) did when he entered the field (vs Atlético de Madrid) and this week he trained very well, very well,” Aguirre said, and then delved into his chances of starting as a starter.
“I talked to him and he's ready. I don't know if he's going to start or not, but he's in it,” said El Vasco before lashing out at the hair of the young Japanese footballer.
Obviously this caused laughter throughout the press room and Aguirre himself was observed enjoying the joke, as he laughed at the microphones before continuing with the analysis of the next engagement.
In Spain, the “Aguirre effect” became a trend after their appointment, especially after the victory they won last week against Atletico Madrid at the Estadi de Son Moix, where he won the first three points of his management against one of the most engaged teams in La Liga.
With this result, Aguirre's team left the relegation zone by one point and matched Granada's 29 points; while they approached Elche and Getafe, who are above with 32 units.
For this reason, this Saturday's commitment to Elche will be crucial to the aspirations of the Balearic team, because if they were to win, they would sink a direct rival and would be closer to salvation.
This is Javier Aguirre's sixth adventure in Spain, as he had previously also landed at Osasuna, Atlético de Madrid, Real Zaragoza, Espanyol de Barcelona and Leganés.
Except for the mattress team, all the institutions it has reached share a common denominator: fighting the bottom of the table. The most recent example was Leganés, who could not save from relegation at the end of the 2019-2020 season.
However, Vasco's path has not focused solely on Spain, as he has experience in football from Japan, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, in addition to the Mexican one. The rest of the clubs he has led were Al-Wahda Football Club, Atlante, Pachuca, Monterrey and the senior teams of Japan, Egypt and Mexico. The latter on up to two occasions.
