Read the official synopsis of Fernanda Melchor's novel that will soon be released to television on Netflix:

“A group of children find a corpse floating in the murky waters of an irrigation canal near the La Matosa rancheria. The body turns out to be that of the Witch, a woman who inherited this trade from her deceased mother, and whom the inhabitants of that rural area respected and feared. After the macabre discovery, suspicion and gossip will fall on a group of young people from the village, whom a neighbor saw a few days earlier as they fled the sorceress's house, carrying what appeared to be an inert body. From there, the characters involved in the crime will tell us their story while readers immerse ourselves in the life of this place beset by misery and abandonment, and where the violence of darker eroticism and sordid power relations converge.”
