One of the best activities to enjoy the hot spring weather in Mexico City and forget about the routine for a while is to have a picnic with friends or family enjoying nature. However, not all green areas are allowed, as some are restricted.
The Rufino Tamayo Park is located in the northern part of Chapultepec's first section, between the Tamayo Museum of Contemporary Art and the National Museum of Anthropology. and History. It has an area of 14.7 hectares and features a children's play area, pergola with picnic tables and seating areas. It is the ideal place to live with pets and on weekends there are free activities such as plays and concerts by the museum, which is free on Sundays, so the flow of people tends to increase.
On one side of the Cuicuilco shopping center is the archaeological zone of Cuicuilco, whose word means “place where songs and dances are made”. It is known for being the first major civic religious center in the Mexican Altiplano. It opens from Tuesday to Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm and features a large pyramid that can be climbed and an on-site museum that displays objects discovered during archaeological excavations in the area. It is the perfect place to have a picnic after a walk around the place.
Xicoténcatl Park is located in Colonia San Diego in Coyoacán, very close to the Former Convent of Churubusco and the National School of Music. It is open daily from 6 am to 7 pm and features several planters, trees, children's games, exercise equipment and three Talavera tile fountains.
There is also a main fountain where the monument to Al Mestizaje by Julián Martínez stands out. It consists of 6 thousand square meters and is one of the favorite parks for families to have picnics in the south area or just walk in the middle of the trees.
Although it is located next to the noisy area of Huipulco, the Parque de los novios or also known as Francisco Martínez de la Vega Forest is one of the best options in the city to enjoy a free time in nature. Although it is small, the park stands out for its vegetation, its artificial waterfall and a pond at the entrance. It is open every day from 7 in the morning to 6 in the afternoon, and is very close to Huipulco light rail station.
Close to the Perisur shopping center is the Tlalpan Forest, which consists of 252.86 hectares and has been a Natural Protected Area since January 1997. It was developed on the basaltic substrate resulting from the explosion of the Xitle volcano. Although it is known as one of the best places to run close to nature, it also has small wooden tables to enjoy a picnic in nature.
You can find around 206 species of flora such as colorin, ash, palmite and a species of orchid, but most of the forest is made up of oak; trees can be seen 3 to 12 meters high and it is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 5 am to 4:30pm.
