This Saturday, April 16, Colombia will give the last farewell to one of the idols of national football, Freddy Rincón Valencia. A heartfelt tribute will be paid to him at the Pascual Guerrero Olympic Stadium, before his final farewell, which will be at the Metropolitan Cemetery of the South, in Cali.
The Mayor's Office of Cali reported that all preparations are ready for this farewell to 'El Colosso'. According to the district administration, the protocol events will begin at ten o'clock in the morning at Sanfernandino, where prominent figures of Colombian football, the authorities of that sport and the players who shared their life trajectory will gather.
Afterwards, from noon to four in the afternoon, the doors will open for fans, fans and football lovers. Colombians who want to say their last goodbye to Fredy Rincón will be able to go to the sports scene with the national team's jersey.
Then, at 4 p.m. in the afternoon, a caravan will rise to the Metropolitan Cemetery of the South, via Cali - Jamundí, escorted by the corps of traffic agents of the Mayor's Office of Santiago de Cali, family, fans and friends.
In that place, the Colombian football idol will be buried, who died this week as a result of a serious traffic accident.
“It is a very important reference of the Pacific people, it is one of those gifts that Buenaventura gives us to Cali and Colombia, he is a figure that has marked our history and in that sense the farewell will be a big farewell,” said Mayor Jorge Iván Ospina.
Death of Freddy Rincón
The Buenos Aires footballer Fredy Rincón, one of the stars of the golden generation of national football, suffered a traffic accident in the early hours of Monday, April 11 in Cali. His prognosis was reserved, he was urgently operated on at the Imbanaco Clinic, where several of his family, friends, and followers waited with faith for his recovery.
The incident occurred at 4:11 a.m. last Monday in the vicinity of the El Perro park sector. There, apparently, the person who was driving the van in which the former footballer was riding ran a red light, which ended in a bulky crash into a bus of the MÍO mass transit system.
The impact occurred specifically on the side where Freddy Rincón was, that is, against the side of the co-driver.
As a result of this traffic accident, the former athlete suffered serious injuries, including severe craniocerebral trauma. Despite medical efforts to save the life of an idol of the Colombian National Team, on April 13 the medical center where he was being held reported on the death of the 55-year-old former footballer.
“Despite all the efforts made by our medical and healthcare team, patient Freddy Eusebio Rincón Valencia, died today, April 13, 2022,” the statement said.
Fans, authorities and clubs from different parts of the world mourned the death of Freddy Rincón, who will be given the last farewell today in Cali.
