Uniformed members of the Cartagena Metropolitan Police rescued in the early hours of this Friday, April 15, a seven-month-old baby who was abandoned outdoors in a cardboard box in a sector next to the Clock Tower, in the historic center of the city.
The authorities, who were alerted to the presence of the minor by members of the sector's Civic Participation Network, arrived at the scene around 3 in the morning to rescue the child and, subsequently, transfer her to the Napoleon Franco Pareja Children's Hospital - Casa del Niño.
According to the senior officer, the minor had to be hospitalized due to the degree of dehydration she registered. Next, General Zapata confirmed that relatives of the baby arrived at the medical center, arguing that they supposedly fell asleep and when they left the place they forgot to take the seven-month-old girl with them.

General Zapata added that, for the time being, the institution is analyzing security cameras in the sector in order to verify whether or not there was an intention to leave the child under seven months old abandoned.
“The entire procedure will be done with the Family Welfare to establish exactly whether there is neglect or bad intention,” said the senior official, stressing that thanks to the timely reaction of the uniformed personnel “they avoided a fatal outcome”, since the baby was exposed to a situation that could compromise her life .

According to the police commander, Brigadier General Nicolás Zapata, the woman, identified as Keismi Martínez Barrios, entered the hospital faking labor pains and, while the child's mother was sleeping, took the opportunity to abduct him.
When she woke up and did not find her baby, the child's mother alerted the hospital, which immediately notified the authorities, who deployed a lock plan in the city in order to capture Martínez Barrios before he disappeared with the newborn.
“The quadrants come to mind going to the terminal, there they find the woman with the baby and proceed to capture her,” the commander of the Cartagena Metropolitan Police told the Bogotá radio station.
According to the first investigations, the woman, who was charged with simple kidnapping, reportedly abducted the newborn since for months she had pretended to her romantic partner that she was pregnant.
