Who is Francisco Martín Moreno, the writer whom AMLO called “classist”

This is not the first time that the journalist and the president have faced words through social media

Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), president of Mexico, responded firmly to criticism by writer and journalist Francisco Martín Moreno for his recent statements following the results of Mandato's revocation.

The journalist said, with a couple of graphs from the data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), that “The more illiteracy, the more votes for Morena”.

Moreno met with a quick response from the president, who published a recent study where he is ranked among the most accepted presidents in the world, and called “classist” to the writer.

“Martín Moreno's classist says that only illiterate people in the country support me, which, by the way, fills me with pride because, among other things, education is not the same as culture.”

Moreno is recognized as one of the strongest critics of Andrés Manuel's economic, political and social policies, the Fourth Transformation and the National Regeneration Movement (Morena).

In his own biography on the official website where he warned that he “writes freely without open or hidden commitments to any protagonist of national political life”.

He added: “He is known for the radicalism of his writings, where he records his angry views without anyone being able to accuse him of belonging to any sector, group or party that would severely limit his spaces of expression.”

Francisco Martín Moreno was born on April 4, 1946 in the then Federal District, in the center of Mexico. His academic preparation was developed at the German School Alexander Von Humboldt.

For much of his life he has dedicated himself to the world of writing, as a creator of books and journalist specializing in the historical novel. Some identify him perfectly with his debut, México Negro in 1986.

Since then, in addition to the thousands of columns he claims to have written for various national and international media, he has written 22 more books. Among the most recognized are The Scars of the Wind, Carnal Raptures, The Shipwreck of Mexico, among others.

Among the most important recognitions that the Mexican has received, the Golden Laurel for Literary Excellence was highlighted for his book The Wind Scars in Spain, and in Mexico he was named the National Journalism Prize during 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1998.

This is not the first time it has exploded against the Fourth Transformation. For example, in April 2019, in an interview with journalist Jorge Ramos, he assured that he is a populist man, in the context that he would not be able to sell the presidential plane.

And in another context, he assured that his leadership is wrong because the masses react by emotions, not reactions, this when they comment on their popular consultations.

Nor is it forgotten when, through an interview, he expressed that “if I could return to the time of the inquisition, I would hang, no, I burned each of the Morenistas alive in the capital's zócalo”, which caused the indignation of social networks.

In this same exchange of ideas with journalists Pedro Ferriz de Con, he assured that whoever voted for Morena's in the midterm elections would be a traitor to the country.

“It makes me too much, it sows hatred and I am going to make a comment with little depth on this subject. No eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth because we were all one-eyed and toothy. It's love and peace. I know that conservatives are upset because we are transforming Mexico. They forget the essential principle of humanism, love of neighbor,” the president of Mexico replied on that occasion.

In addition, in 2017, Moreno wrote in a column for El Universal that “he would not vote for López Obrador because he would try to govern with recipes drawn from the trash can of the history of economic doctrines that have amply proved their expiration and inefficiency.”
