This April 15, 2022 marks the 65th anniversary of the death of the Golden Age idol of Mexican cinema Pedro Infante Cruz, who left a legacy of more than 50 films including Nosotros los pobre s of 1948, The Three García in 1947, A full machine in 1951 and Escuela de vagrandos in 1955; he recorded more than 300 songs such as Amorcito Corazón y Cienos; in addition to having 6 children.
The idol of Guamúchil boarded a flight in Merida Yucatan which took place on a cargo plane carrying several tons of fish from the company Mariscos del Golfo. 15 minutes after the flight got up, it collapsed resulting in the explosion of the plane; the parts and cargo were fired more than 100 meters from where the accident happened.
Between 7:30 and 08:00 in the morning the plane collapsed and hit the yard of a house where a mother was accompanied by her son, who also died; Infante's death at 39 was instant. Sadly, four people died in that terrible accident.
The place where he died was at 54th South and 87th Street in the city of Mérida, Yucatan. There it can be read on a commemoration plaque: “In this place tragically lost his life on April 15, 1957, the Mexican idol Pedro Infante Cruz and Captain Victor M Vidal Marciano Bautista, Ruth Rosell Chan and the boy Baltazar Martín Cruz. This plate is placed in your memory. Merida Yucatan September 1993″, a bust of the actor was also included.
It was known that Pedro Infante loved aviation, for this reason he learned to fly ships; in 1955 he became a member of Tamsa-Transportes Áereos de México S.A. and until April 15, 1957 he had accumulated 2,989 flight hours. Before his death he had crashed on air voyages, the first in 1947 but he was not seriously injured, in the second in 1949, he almost lost his life and had to be placed metal plate on the skull.
Due to the seriousness of the accident, the place burst into flames in a matter of seconds, so the bodies could not be easily recognized; the singer's body could be pointed out by the plaque they put on him and a gold bracelet that was never removed.
The death of Blanca Estela Pavón, who died when she was just 23 years old, curiously happened in the same way as a result of a plane accident, as it broke out in the Pico del Fraile at Popocatepetl volcano. At his funeral Pedro Infante said: “I know that I too am going to die in a plane accident”, and just five years later the Sinaloan died in the same way as his friend.
Currently the remains of Pedro Infante are in the Garden Pantheon located in the Álvaro Obregón delegation in Mexico City. For the third consecutive year it was announced that the mourning event at the cemetery was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
