Starting this Monday, April 18 in Bogotá, decree 119 of 2022, issued at the beginning of this month to deliver new indications to motorcyclists in the city, will begin to apply. Among the provisions is the requirement that the identification of the motorcyclists license plate must be visible on the helmet and, if they deem it appropriate, on their clothing, such as the vest.

It was indicated that motorcycle drivers must have the license plate number assigned to the vehicle printed on the outer back of their safety helmets. The indication is that the plate is on a dark background and the letters and numbers must be white on reflective material. Likewise, it was indicated that this should be in the arial type and measure 3.5 centimeters high and a line width of 1 centimeter.

In the case of wearing the motorcycle license plate in clothing, the decree states that motorcycle-type motor vehicle drivers and their companions may use the license plate number assigned to the vehicle, in reflective letters and numbers. The size shall be at least nine centimeters high by four centimeters wide for each letter or number.

The authorities assure that these provisions are to “facilitate full identification” of motorcyclists. The measure is intended to make the license plate clearly visible to citizens who see the motorcycle pass by, as well as to authorities and security cameras. In this way, according to the mayor, it will be possible to identify the person who commits a crime on board the motorcycle

It should be remembered that, for a better pedagogy process, the measures have already been implemented, but as of Monday, April 18, there will be no exceptions to the rule.

In addition to this provision, it was also restricted to the barbecue or companion on a motorcycle. This measure will take effect on Thursday, April 21 and will only apply on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 7:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. In addition, it will take into account six exceptions:

- Transport of people with disabilities.

-Insurers that perform work 24/7.

-Driver chosen.

-Public or private security workers.

-In case of emergencies of any kind.

-In case the companion is a woman.

“We have agreed, at the request of motorcyclists, their clubs and organizations, to include one more exception to the companion on these 3 days (Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 7:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.): that there will only be a restriction to male companion. There will be no limitation for women, the fact that the escort is a woman will be part of the exceptions,” said the Mayor Mayor of Bogotá.
