During Holy Week, it is common for national and international tourists to look for activities to do, especially for Colombian Catholics it is important to find places where religious celebrations take place. In Cali, for example, it is common for people in these holy days to seek to climb the hills, either for tourism or tests of faith, which is why the local authorities have announced some measures so that those interested do not have problems wanting to ascend to these sites.
First of all, the Mayor's Office of Cali insisted that people comply with the schedules to return to the city, since these are established so that citizens do not get lost, get caught or become victims of thieves. That is why they pointed out that those who want to ascend to the hills, can do so from 6:00 in the morning either to the Hill of the Three Crosses, to Cristo Rey or to Yanaconas.
Of course, they emphasized that at 3:00 in the afternoon all people must descend from these tourist sites and that, after this time, it is expected that there will be no more citizens in those areas of the capital of the Valley. “We don't want people to be vulnerable and exposed in the tutelary hills of the city. After 4:00 p.m. we will be with the Police and the Ministry of Security and Justice inviting them to leave these places,” said Mayor Jorge Iván Ospina.
In the case of Cerro de las Tres Cruces, the authorities indicated that the only authorized access for the ascent will be through the Chipichape road, but for the measure to get off before 3:00 in the afternoon, from 1:00 p.m. access will be closed, preventing more people from climbing. Access through the Montebello sector will not be enabled to avoid situations of risk to citizens.
They also recalled that during Holy Week, the influx of people to these hills is much greater, so there are crowds. In addition to taking into account biosafety measures, the Secretariat for Risk Management recommended that it is better for pregnant women and children under four years of age not to take these tours, nor will pets be allowed in.
In the case of those families that will take children over the age of four, the authorities emphasized that “every child over four years old who is going to ascend the hill must be accompanied by a guardian, parent or someone who can assume responsibility”. They added that minors must wear a visible cockade on which they have their names written, names of those responsible and telephone numbers.
Considering that religious events will mainly be held in these places during these days, the Mayor's Office also insisted that the authorities will be banning the passage of people under the influence of narcotics or alcoholic beverages, nor those who intend to ride their bicycles. Likewise, those who carry bladed, firearms or traumatic weapons will be prohibited.
On the other hand, it is important to note that recently the operating group of the Cali Infrastructure Secretariat optimized the access road to Cerro de las Tres Cruces for this Major Week. With the help of a motor grader and compactor, as well as milled material, 2.5 kilometers of access road were improved to the place for tourists to enjoy these days.
“Bearing in mind that during Holy Week, many locals and tourists climb this hill to make their pilgrimage, we are fixing the road that gives access to the Three Crosses. It's two and a half kilometers that were in very bad shape. We have profiled the road with a motor grader and applied a milling material, in those places where there are subsidences, so that people can walk up and do not have any problems or accidents,” said the engineer and secretary of infrastructure, Néstor Martínez Sandoval.
