Passion of Christ in Iztapalapa: which streets will be closed

The route will be protected by 1,500 safety elements and will have hydration stations

Through Twitter, the mayor's office of Iztapalapa announced the streets that will be closed to vehicular passage on the occasion of the 179 representation of the Passion of Christ. After two years of being held behind closed doors due to the coronavirus, the representation of the Passion and Resurrection of Christ during Holy Week will take place in a mixed; being face-to-face Friday and Holy Saturday in a confined manner.

The Viacrucis will be a route of just under 3 kilometers and will start at the Macroplaza de la mayoría towards Aztecas Street at 12 noon, turning right on Mariano Escobedo Street, left at Ayuntamiento, then right in Cuauhtémoc, passing Calle Lerdo de Tejada you will turn left into Avenida Luis Hidalgo Monroy, finally we will continue straight on the Cerro de la Estrella Road, where the performance will end approximately at 4:00 p.m. The streets will be closed from 07:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Clara Brugada Molina, mayor of the Iztapalapa mayor's office, announced that the closed streets will be Eje 6 Sur, Avenida Javier Rojo Gómez, Hidalgo, May 5 with Iturbide and Avenida Ermita with Porfirio Díaz, as they will be an external belt to protect.

The Biblical Passages that will be seen in the representation will be: conciliation and presentation of Judas before the council, pilate with Claudia, whipping, pilate washes his hands and sentencing Jesus, putting the cross on him, then the Way of the Cross will begin, then the first fall where Jesus meets Jew, the second fall and encounter with Mary, the third fall and the meeting with Samuel Beliveth, the meeting with Veronica Rostro, meeting with Samaritan and finally the Crucifixion.

Similarly, the mayor's office gave recommendations for those who are going to witness the Viacrucis such as: wearing protection from the sun, attending with comfortable and light-colored clothes, avoiding attending with pets, keeping children close and guarded, following health prevention measures, feeding and hydrating properly, locating medical care modules, follow the instructions of trained personnel, maintain appropriate distance from horses and protect the feet because the pavement is hot.

The elements that will be found during the tour are: Coordination Units of the Secretariat for Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection of Mexico City, firefighters, C5 of the CDMX, health jurisdiction, volunteer groups, militarized Mexican guards, and radio communication brigades in civil protection.

There will also be paramedics and civil protection ambulance, Red Cross ambulance, Rescue Squad ambulance and Medical Emergencies, and mobile unit of the SGIRPC.

The hydration stations will be found at the exit of the Viacrucis in the Macroplaza, during the Cerro de la Estrella Trail on the corner with Ermita Iztapalapa and finally turning left at the fork of Cerro de la Estrella.

The live broadcast of the representation of Good Friday will be from 12 noon on the social networks of the Mayor's Office Iztapalapa, Channel 11, Channel 14 and Capital 21.

Finally, the mayor's office reminded the population of the Dry Law that will be implemented on April 14 and 15 in establishments located within of the territorial perimeter of Iztapalapa.
