Mercedes-Benz launches electric Citan and EQT luxury variant

Having electrified its EQS and EQE luxury sedans, Mercedes-Benz now also takes its compact vans to the charging station. The Mercedes Citan, in the Van and Tourer version, as well as the more refined variant, the T-Class, will soon be available in an electric version.

The all-electric vans will go on sale in the second half of the year under the name of e-Citan and EQT, respectively, and will be the most affordable electric vehicles of the star brand.

This was announced by the project manager, Dirk Hipp, during the last test drives. Hipp has not yet specified what the additional price will be compared to internal combustion models.

Technically, the vehicles are based on the Renault Kangoo van, a model that emerged from the collaboration between the French and German companies. The electric drive also comes from the French manufacturer and, at the moment, it only offers one configuration: the engine has 90 kW/122 hp and the battery has a capacity of 45 kW/h.

According to Hipp, this should allow speeds of 130 km/h and autonomies of 300 kilometers. Charging is carried out with up to 80 kW, so that the battery will reach a filling level of 80 percent after 40 minutes, the project manager said.
