Easter: dozens of people lined up to enter Lima Cathedral

For the second consecutive day, Lima's Plaza Mayor opened its doors to the public, two years after the COVID-19 pandemic reached Peru.

This Good Friday, dozens of religious faithful lined up very early to enter the Cathedral of Lima, in the Fencing in Lima. While there was no religious liturgy, people waited to enter, pray and pay their respects this Holy Week.

The faithful of all ages could be seen waiting for their turn; many carried with them the famous palms that are customary to buy during these days. The cathedral opened at approximately 9:15 a.m. for citizens to pray on the spot.

At 12:00 p.m., the liturgical action of the Sermon of the 7 Words that recalls the words Christ said on the cross took place.

On the other hand, this was the second consecutive day that Lima's Plaza Mayor was open to the population, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. For some time now this place has remained barred and with police security. Today, in addition to the police officers, there was also a shelter for the tourist and security police of Los Portales.

TOUR OF THE SEVEN CHURCHES

This Holy Week, after two years of the spread of COVID-19 and with more than 50% of the Peruvian population already vaccinated, official events of the Catholic Church were reactivated.

Since Thursday, April 14, many people visited the seven churches. The archbishopric of Lima assured that the temples are prepared to receive parishioners; but recommended that the vulnerable population, such as older adults, children, among others, participate in the masses virtually.

For its part, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) also reminded the population that it is mandatory to present the vaccination card with the three doses against coronavirus, respect all biosecurity measures, maintain social distancing and disinfecting hands with alcohol.

As for future activities, this Sunday, the Archbishopric of Lima will celebrate the commemoration of Jesus' resurrection in the morning hours.
