Chivas: who are the candidates to replace Leaño

Under the interim leadership of Ricardo Cadena, the Guadalajara club will finish the 2022 Clausura while managing to find a new technical director to return them to triumphs

The Guadalajara club was again left without a technical director after Ricardo Peláez's sports management fired Marcelo Michel Leaño. After Chivas's defeat to Rayados de Monterrey, the institution decided to end the era of Leaño on the bench in Tapatio to look for a new coach.

Immediately, the fans began to “candidate” prospects who could resume the club's course and thus return them to the path of victories. As soon as the public knew that Michel Leaño would no longer be the coach of the team, different sectors of fans remembered the legacy of Matías Jesús Almeyda he had with Chivas, so they put him as the first candidate to return.

However, it was not the only name that came around, others such as Antonio Turco Mohamed, José Luis Chelis Sánchez and Emigdio Venustiano Olvera, Profe Venus were some of the other prospects that sounded to reach the chiverío.

However, not all of them are possible or likely for Chivas, as some already have equipment or are far from the possibility of returning to Verde Valle. In the case of Matías Almeyda, the option for him to arrive is almost impossible as he is currently established in Major League Soccer (MLS).

Almeyda is leading Jose Earthquakes, who is at the bottom of the standings for the 2022 season. Although he didn't start the season off to a good start, he has a contract that links him to the North American club.

The former Argentine footballer led the Sacred Herd during the period from 2015 to 2018, during those years the club won two championships in the First Division of Mexico - in addition to an MX Cup and a Concacaf Cup - so the fans considered that he would be the ideal coach for the club.

Another possible candidate is Turco Mohamed, who years ago had approaches with the tapatia directive. Since Guadalajara ceased Victor Manuel Vucetich, the fans asked for the arrival of Turco, but the opportunity never materialized.

Although Ricardo Pelaez gave signs that it could be a possibility, it did not materialize and Antonio Mohamed signed with a Brazilian football club Clube Atlético Mineiro in early 2022. Recently, the Argentine strategist himself revealed the reason why the opportunity did not materialize in the Herd.

In an interview with Fox Sports, Mohamed explained that in 2020 he did try to finalize the opportunity with Chivas, and even had talks with the management. Because there was never a concrete offer, he opted for the Monterrey Rayados and thus had a successful stage with the regional montane ensemble.

The last novelty that surprised when he proposed himself as coach of Verde Valle was the one popularly known as Profe Venus.
