After pandemic, record hotel occupancy is recorded in Oaxaca for Easter

After two years of pandemic, 75 percent hotel occupancy was reported in Oaxaca this Thursday due to the Easter holidays, according to José Rivera Espina, president of the Oaxaca Hotel and Motel Association (AHMO).

“We are already on April 14, Holy Thursday, practically the strongest holiday season of this Holy Week. We are reporting 75 percent hotel occupancy which is Thursday, Friday and Saturday, our strongest days. Right now there are hotels that are at 100 percent occupancy in the Historic Center; national tourism is the one that is impacting us the most right now; we have visits from the State of Mexico, Mexico City, and the city of Puebla,” he said in a Twitter video.

He also assured that if this continues in the coming months, the lost capital could be recovered due to the activation of tourism in the state. During the health contingency, the chain of 127 hotels and motels belonging to the Association lost about 3,500 jobs.

Last few days Juan Carlos Rivera Castellanos, Secretary of Tourism in Oaxaca, estimated an influx of 122,148 national and international visitors in Puerto Escondido and Bahías de Huatulco as well as in the capital. An economic outflow of 439 million pesos is expected over the weekend.

Similarly, the Ministry of Tourism of Oaxaca reported on strategies for the attention of visitors, such as Operation Lifeguard, Easter Week 2022 carried out in coordination with the Mexican Secretariat of the Navy-Navy together with federal and state government entities. He also reminded the population to continue with sanitary measures to avoid Covid-19 infections.

During this period of Holy Week and Easter, 37 elements were deployed among admirals, captains, officers, limes and sailors, with the aim of providing security and security to national and international vacationers who come to Oaxaca's tourist destinations.

Smaller vessels and land vehicles were also deployed to carry out lifeguard actions, medical support and maritime, air and land surveillance. Relief and rescue posts were also set up.

A few days ago, the governor of the state, Alejandro Murat Hinojosa, mentioned that July is the best month to show that Oaxaca is standing, and that it is estimated that in the city of Oaxaca there will be hotel occupancy above 94 percent per month for the famous Guelaguetza, that is, around 460 million pesos.

It is scheduled from July 25 to August 1; on July 8, 9, 15 and 16, the Convites de la Guelaguetza will tour the main streets of the Historic Center, while on July 23 and 30 there will be the Official Parade of Delegations.

Likewise, Juan Pablo Guzmán Cobían, secretary of economy, commented that the Mezcal Fair will be held from July 22 to August 3 and is expected to spill 20 million pesos for mezcal, agro-industrial, craft and gastronomic companies in Oaxaca; in addition to 130,000 visitors, 30,000 more than in the last edition held in 2019.
