Are you a lover of the horror film subgenre that intentionally shows grotesque or psychologically disturbing alterations of the human body? If so (and if not too), you can't miss the teaser trailer for this great contemporary horror production that will soon hit the big screen.
Renowned Canadian film director and screenwriter David Cronenberg returns to the genre of body horror that has worked so well for him. This time he does it with his new film The Crimes of the Future. The new film will be world-premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, where it will inject a large number of stars into the Croisette. Viggo Mortensen, former Cronenberg collaborator, leads a cast that also features Léa Seydoux and Kristen Stewart.
With the release of the trailer by Neon, it can be seen that the film looks like a really wild journey. There are a lot of horrifying pseudomedical procedures, including a shot of someone's mouth being stitched that's sure to upset you.
As the human species adapts to a synthetic environment, the body undergoes new transformations and mutations. Together with his partner Caprice (Léa Seydoux), Saul Tenser (Viggo Mortensen), a famous performance artist, he publicly shows the metamorphosis of his organs in avant-garde performances. Timlin (Kristen Stewart), a researcher at the National Organ Registry, obsessively follows her movements, and that's when a mysterious group is revealed... His mission: to use Saul's notoriety to shed light on the next phase of human evolution.
Cronenberg's films, which include classics such as A History of Violence, Dead Ringers and The Fly, are not at all weak in their stomachs. And the first rumors about The Crimes of the Future are that this is a period Cronenberg; which means that it could cause praise, as well as some abandonments at Cannes. And Cronenberg probably wouldn't do it any other way.
The Crimes of the Future will be the fourth collaboration between Cronenberg and Mortensen. It will be released in the United States in June, still without a date in Latin America.
