Video: This is how the Imbanaco clinic announced the death of Freddy Rincón

Since last April 11, relatives and followers of footballer Freddy Rincón were aware of his state of health, after the serious car accident in which he was involved in on the streets of Cali. Despite the efforts of the medical staff of the Imbanaco Clinic, 'The Colossus of Buenaventura' passed away at 11:30 on the night of Wednesday, April 13, leaving Colombia and football fans in mourning.

Next to Sebastián Rincón, son of the footballer, the clinic's medical director, Laureano Quintero Barrera, told the media about the death of the 55-year-old man. “We want to express our sincere feelings of condolence to their families, to their friends, to their relatives and followers around the globe. There will never be a way to express to them what it feels like to lose one of our patients,” said the health professional.

Since arriving at the clinic, Rincón had been in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in a state of health that, throughout the three days and six public reports, remained critical and without favorable progress. While the doctor confirmed the athlete's death, next door Sebastián Rincón is quite affected.

It is worth remembering that, hours after the accident, his son Sebastián arrived at the clinic, who has shared emotional images with his father over the course of the days through social networks. For his part, the doctor asked the followers of the famous athlete, internationally recognized, to honor his memory:

The doctor's request comes amid the doubts that have also arisen in the face of the accident that caused the death of the athlete, who was mobilizing in a van and crashing into a bus of the mass transport service of the capital of Calle, MÍO. Despite the progress of the investigations, it is still not clear to the authorities who was behind the wheel in the car in which 'El Colosso' was driving.

Upon arrival at the clinic, Freddy Eusebio Rincón Valencia underwent the corresponding examinations and underwent surgery for severe head trauma, after which he was admitted to the ICU until his death.

Freddy Rincón was mobilizing, together with a group of friends, in the Ford UGR410 license plate van in the early hours of last April 11. As was evident on security cameras that captured the accident, the vehicle was speeding through the intersection of race 34 and Calle 5, near the Pascual Guerrero stadium and the red light that remains on that corner is passed, colliding with the bus of the massive transport system.

The authorities' investigation into the case was able to identify two other people traveling with the former player in the private vehicle: Maria Manuela Patiño, 20, and Diana Lorena Cortes, 43, who are out of danger; in fact, Cortes was discharged hours after the accident and left the clinic without giving any further statements about what had happened.

For now, the biggest question for the authorities is who was driving the vehicle, versions indicate that a fourth person, who has not been identified, was behind the wheel of the van, but others point out that it was the footballer who was in the driver's position.

In addition to the security cameras and the police report of the accident, the process included the breathalyzer test carried out on the driver of the bus identified as Jorge Eduardo Muñoz and the statements thereof.
