Subject assaulted a woman to strip her belongings; he was arrested

Through the security cameras of the Command, Control, Computing, Communications and Citizen Contact Center of Mexico City and the support of elements of the Ministry of Citizen Security, a subject was arrested who stripped a woman of his belongings using violence in the Santiago Acahualtepec neighborhood, in the mayor's office Iztapalapa.

Through their YouTube account, the authorities released the video showing both the theft and the capture of the alleged perpetrator. The events took place at Calzada Ignacio Zaragoza in October 2021, according to the data in the audiovisual material.

Staff at C2 Oriente noticed the suspicious attitude of a man as he walked behind the victim was transiting on public roads. Under this slogan, a monitoring of the events was implemented, so the monitoring was carried out through the cameras at the same time as the support was coordinated with the elements of the field police.

During her journey on a camellon, the woman was violently intercepted by the subject. The person involved pounced on her and began to physically assault her in order to disown her of her property. Moments later, it can be seen how two other citizens come to the aid and begin to pursue the person responsible.

After a brief chase, the police units that finally made the arrest arrived. Later, the woman fully recognized her aggressor and was transferred to the premises of the Public Prosecutor's Office. The stolen purse was recovered and the investigation process began to determine responsibility, as reported by C5.

In accordance with presumption rights and the Law on the Protection of Personal Data held by Obligated Persons in Mexico City, the identity of the detainee was not disclosed.

Under the principle of presumption of innocence, detainees cannot be held guilty until the relevant judicial authority so dictates after investigations. That is why the personal data of the captured persons is protected at all times. In addition, this does not infringe due process.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which Mexico recognizes, takes up the subject. Article 11, paragraph one states: “Every person accused of a crime has the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty, in accordance with the law and in a public trial in which he has been assured of all the guarantees necessary for his defense”.

At the federal level, Mexican laws stipulate in the Criminal Code the recognition of the crime as follows: “Commits the crime of theft: one who seizes a movable alien thing, without the right and without the consent of the person who may dispose of it in accordance with the law”, reads article 367 of the regulations.
