During the middle of April, a group of animators from Blue Sky Studio uploaded a video to say goodbye to the studio after the purchase of Disney. In the short film you can see one of the iconic characters of the Ice Age saga accomplish his mission in life. And it is that the iconic Scrat squirrel, who accompanied Sid, Diego and Manny for 20 years, appeared to say goodbye while tasting their much-coveted acorn.
Another situation that led to the end of the character, as well as the purchase of 20th Century Fox, by The Walt Disney Company, was the legal dispute that the company that made the Ice Age saga for more than two decades, with which she was recently designated as the intellectual creator of the famous character, the American cartoonist, Ivy Silberstein.
The sudden video clip quickly rose to the social media trend and netizens reacted with nostalgia after many grew up watching Scrat doing crazy things, such as being a crucial part of the Pangea, dividing continents; fighting various piranhas in the sea and causing a flood all in order to get their oak fruit.
Among the various comments with longing, some users celebrated the end of Scrat with memes, while others pointed out that he was one of the characters that drove the love they have for the saga, which is going for its sixth installment in the Ice Age: The Adventures of Buck and which will be available coming soon on Netflix.
“A knife to the liver would have hurt me less. At least Scrat has finally been able to eat the acorn”, “I feel that my childhood is finally complete, at last #Scrat managed to eat his acorn”, “After so many years, Scrat was able to have his nut. #NoEstoyLlorando, you are” and “20 years it has taken him to achieve it, but he has finally succeeded, until always Scrat”, are some comments recovered on Twitter.
The character of Scrat has participated in 5 of the official films: The Ice Age (2002), The Ice Age 2 (2006), The Ice Age 3 (2009), The Ice Age 4 (2012) and The Ice Age: Clash of Worlds (2016).
On the other hand, and as a sense of tribute by Disney, it was launched on its streaming platform Disney+, The Ice Age: The Adventures of Scrat, a series of six animated shorts starring Scrat, where he can be seen in a new stage with ups and downs and new adventures derived from his recent fatherhood.
The series was directed by different characters close to Disney and will star Scrat and Baby Scrat as they bond and fight for possession of the treasured acorn.
The first chapter is called Nuts About You, Scrat; there Scrat meets his son, Baby Scrat and lives the absolute joy of being a father, until Baby Scrat sees the acorn for the first time. Chapter two is named LoFi Scrat Beats to Sleep/Chill to, Scrat plays a percussive lullaby so that Baby Scrat stops crying and falls asleep.
For the third episode the selected name was X's and Uh-O's, here Scrat shows Baby Scrat how to plant the acorn, but in the end it is he who learns a lesson. The fourth episode is called Nutty Reflections, Scrat and Baby Scrat run after the acorn and get into a dark cave that looks like a creepy maze of mirrors.
The name of the fifth chapter is Teeter Toddler, thanks to a dodo, Scrat and Baby Scrat end up on opposite sides of a trunk supported by a single branch. For the sixth and final episode the selected title is Nut The End, the acorn flies off and falls to a cliff. With the acorn apparently lost forever.
