“I have decreed three days of mourning in our city in the face of the painful death of Freddy Rincón. I have guided the Secretaries of Government, Security and Justice, and Communications to make themselves available to the family to organize their funeral,” the president in Cali posted on his official Twitter account.
The official also made available the stadium of that city, where Rincón was often the protagonist with 'La mechita', so that his funeral honors would take place, which is expected to generate a massive arrival of the public to give him his last farewell.
“We have arranged the Pascual Guerrero Stadium to rest in a burning chamber. Peace in his grave,” Ospina reiterated through the social network.
The tragic news of the departure of the Colossus of Buenaventura came out on Wednesday night at a press conference and through a statement issued at Clínica Imbanaco where the man who gave him, for the first time in history, the qualification for the Colombian National Team in the last three days of the 1990 world championship in Italy.
After receiving the support of the fans, family and friends of Rincón, the Cali traffic authorities are trying to figure out what could have happened in the accident in which El Colosso was involved at the age of 55, while, apparently, he was a co-driver of a van that crashed into a bus of MÍO de Cali in the early morning of April 11.
On the other hand, the mayor of Cali, Jorge Iván Ospina, spoke on Monday to reveal new details about the accident in which Freddy was involved. The municipal president was able to compile that the collision against the bus of the public transport system occurred at 4:11 a.m., when the Ford truck with plates UGR 410 hit a bus in the vicinity of the El Perro park sector.
Ospina indicated that apart from Rincón, the investigation into the case was able to identify two other people who were traveling with the former player in the private vehicle: Maria Manuela Patiño, 20, and Diana Lorena Cortes, 43, who are out of danger.
So far there is no information about a fourth person who would also have been inside the car and who would be the one behind the wheel, however, there are crossed versions of the latter, since Cali's deputy secretary of mobility, Edwin Candelo, argues that Freddy would have driven the car during the collision.
Freddy Eusebio Rincón left an indelible legacy in the history of Colombian football. An outstanding career where he demonstrated his talent in four different countries. The Colossus also stood out in the golden era of the Colombian national team in the 90s, where it participated in the World Cups in Italy 1990, USA 1994 and France 1998.
