Chumel Torres has become one of the most popular and controversial critics of Andrés Manuel López Obrador's six-year term. His sense of humor, as well as the acid and sarcastic comments he makes against the Tabasco president and his administration have positioned him as one of the most followed opinion leaders in recent years.
Throughout the years that Andrés Manuel López Obrador has served as president of the country, the driver of El Pulso de la República has used every opportunity to to launch itself against the so-called Fourth Transformation and, in today's chapter, Chumel Torres criticized the attitude that the president has had with journalists in the country.
Faced with the discouraging context of disappearances in Mexico, the president has shown more interest in answering and attacking journalists who are critical of his government, rather than addressing the country's real problems, which is why Chumel Torres shook it on his social networks with a sarcastic comment.
During his traditional morning conferences, Andrés Manuel López Obrador has devoted much of his energy to trying to deny the information of journalists and opposition personalities such as Chumel Torres, Carmen Aristegui or Carlos Loret de Mola, the latter being the one who has received the most attacks from the president.
In recent months, the former Televisa broadcaster and the president of Mexico have been involved in a series of clashes and exchanges of opinions that, although this is not the first time that a journalist has criticized the president, the discussion between the two has reached new levels.
The attacks between Andrés Manuel López Obrador and Carlos Loret de Mola come after the journalist collaborated in an investigation with the media Latinus and the Mexicans Against Corruption and Impunity organization (MCCI), which exposed a possible conflict of interest between José Ramón López Beltrán , Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) and the company Baker Hughes.
After the scandal of the so-called Casa Gris, the president of the Mexican Republic has insisted that everything has been about a media campaign against him and his government.
“It's a media campaign because we have a political stance and we're facing a conservative bloc, a mafia of power (...) So it's not even a personal or journalistic matter. It is a dispute for the nation,” said Andrés Manuel López Obrador during one of his conferences.
Following the publication of the report, the president of Mexico has endeavored to deny the journalist's investigation and, although he has failed to do so, he continues to attack Carlos Loret de Mola in a context where journalists are at constant risk in the country.
Andrés Manuel López Obrador has exhibited at his morning conferences not only the alleged salary of the former Televisa broadcaster, but also some of the millionaire real estate he allegedly owns. It has also called for journalists or the National Institute for Transparency, Access to Information and Protection of Personal Data (INAI) to make Loret de Mola's income transparent.
For his part, Carlos Loret de Mola has assured that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador seeks revenge against him, as he has said on several occasions to through their official Twitter account.
“The president asks if they want me to disclose my income... and only 3 raise their hands. Thus his failure. Everyone knows that he cannot explain the wealth of his son #JoseRamonLopezBeltran and he wants to take revenge against me,” the communicator wrote.
Similarly, he has accused the Tabasco president of orchestrating a persecution against a journalist.
