The Secretariat of the Navy (Semar) secured 1,220 kilograms of suspected cocaine after an operation deployed on the coast of Jalisco on April 5.

The agency detailed, through a press release, that the cargo was confiscated after an aircraft detected a vessel with suspicious activity 82 nautical miles south of Puerto Vallarta.

Thus, the Secretariat deployed an operation that led to the stranding of the ship on the beach, as well as the apprehension of a subject who had 1,222 containers of white powder with characteristics similar to cocaine in possession.

According to information from the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), cocaine is the main drug trafficked in Mexico; most of it comes from central and southern America.

Luis Cresencio Sandoval, head of the agency, said that from 2018 to 2022 73,834 kilograms of narcotics were secured, with a value of just over 19,503 million pesos. He added that the period with the most insurances was between 2019 and 2020 with 19,931 and 27,712 kilograms respectively.

These figures included the securing of more than a ton of cocaine floating in the sea, in front of the Port of Chiapas, as well as seven suspected criminals who carried it in coordination on a boat and a fishing vessel.

This is after on February 19 acting elements of the Coast Guard identified a boat with two people carrying 1,119 kilograms of drugs, approximately 341 nautical miles (631.5 kilometers) southwest of the port of Chiapas.

As a result, naval elements arrived at the scene, but the crew were no longer on board the smaller vessel and the packages were floating in the vicinity of the sea. However, the sailors found a fishing boat carrying the two people who had been placed on board the narcolancha. There were also electronic tracking equipment.
