On April 11, a photograph showing the deputy of the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD), Edna Díaz Acevedo, along with Paolo Salerno, a lawyer specializing in comparative energy law, was viralized during the session in which the Electrical Reform.
Immediately, the members of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) requested to leave the Chamber of Deputies. Briefcase in hand, the subject got up from the seat and, before walking down the aisles, addressed a few words to the legislator of the yellow party.
After several days of this situation, Díaz Acevedo broke the silence and, through a statement published on social networks, he said that since April 11 he has suffered “written violence and insults” because of the images that, he said, were taken out of context.
He also stated that they have no connection with Salerno, despite the fact that in the video they exchange a few words before his retirement. In addition, she stressed that she did not apply for anyone to join the plenary session.
“I do not have the power to control access in a particular way, that is the exclusive competence of the Board of Directors or, where appropriate, of the presidencies of the United Commissions that were in joint session, all headed by Morena,” said Díaz Acevedo.
Later, he accused, and said he had no doubt, of a “calculated and orchestrated misogynistic aggression” by the Morenoist legislators and their allies, who, he argued, want to discredit his image by means of assumptions and hate speech that incite symbolic and political gender-based violence.
He pointed to Leonel Godoy Rangel, vice-coordinator of the Morenista bench, as the main person responsible for this “hate campaign” against him, since it was he who mentioned his name and the “slander” concerning the energy lobbyist.
“The tone of the aggressions has been so small and low that they reach worrying levels (...) I hold Leonel Godoy Rangel responsible, for what can happen to me and my family, because of the intentional hatred of deliberately mentioning my name,” he wrote.
He added that he also promoted the “azuzado slander” generated by his allies, who, he mentioned, “act like a real gang of beaters” who have used all resources to divert attention from this issue so important to the country.
Díaz Acevedo recalled the new strategy of the cherry party, which he said were “mafia tricks and legislative chicanadas”, since they succeeded in postponing the discussion and voting of the AMLO Electric Reform before the plenary. It will now be held next Sunday, April 17, starting at 10:00am.
On this subject, he said that he would maintain his position against this legislative amendment, since specialists have been informed, as well as with his attendance at the Open Parliament Forums that were held about this possible change.
Finally, he ruled that the attacks against him only reaffirm his “commitment and courage”, which have helped him maintain his convictions, such as “defending Mexico, the planet” and those who “are attached to the past to gain a foothold in autocracy and ruin demagogy”.
“My vote will be responsible, informed, with absolute respect for the law, towards Mexican women and Mexicans, in full awareness and convinced that the Homeland comes first. Nobody is going to stop us in this fight, we are on the right side of history,” said Edna Díaz.
