Panamericana Sur: Great traffic congestion reported to leave Lima for Easter

The slow traffic would be due to the closure of a lane at the height of the Alipio Ponce bridge, located in San Juan de Miraflores.

They report great traffic congestion in the Pan-American South. Hundreds of citizens are looking to leave the city within the framework of the long holiday of Holy Week 2022. Drivers are advised to take alternate routes in the face of the intense traffic that is increasing with the passing of hours.

According to Rutas de Lima, concessionaire of the Vías Nuevas de Lima project, congestion also responds to the temporary closure of the right lane of the Pan-American South, at kilometer 13, in the southbound direction.

In a statement, the company explained that this lane was closed, precisely at this time, because cracks were detected in the Alipio Ponce bridge. In view of this, the experts recommended restricting vehicular traffic.

In this way, they urged drivers to use alternative roads, such as Pedro Miotta Avenue (former Pan-American South).

“During a routine inspection of the northern vehicular bridge of the Alipio Ponce overpass road interchange, certain cracks have been identified. Given this, Rutas de Lima requested a specialized technical evaluation, which recommended the temporary closure of the right lane in that stretch of the Panamericana Sur, heading south,” said the concessionaire.

“In order to safeguard the safety of road users, the concessionaire has arranged for the temporary closure of that lane, and is working on a temporary solution that will allow, as soon as possible, this lane to be reopened,” he added.

According to Panamericana Tv, traffic congestion is beginning to be felt in the oval Monitor, at the height of the Jockey Plaza, in the district of Santiago de Surco. “Our viewers report that from the oval Monitos to the Alipio Ponce bridge it is two and a half hours in transit,” said the host of 24 Horas.

They also reported that the authorities responsible for the Lima roads did not want to talk to the press about how long the lane will be closed.
