At 11:30pm on Wednesday, April 13, the Imbanaco Clinic in Cali confirmed the death of Freddy Rincón in the sixth medical report on the state of health of the former athlete, who was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) three days after suffering a serious traffic accident in the early hours of Monday, April 11, in the capital of Valle del Cauca.
The medical center had reported that Freddy Eusebius's condition was profoundly critical, taking into account the follow-up, diagnostic tests and radiological studies, which did not show a favorable development for him. In this regard, the medical director of the clinic, Laureano Quintero Barrera, had reported that the patient remained in extreme conditions in their respective ICU.
Although in the latest medical reports on the state of health of the former national football player they mentioned that he was' critical ', the news of his death surprised the whole country and also the teams he passed through abroad such as Napoli, Real Madrid, Palmeiras, among others.
The latest report, which confirmed the death of Freddy Rincón, brought down two of his friends, with whom he shared on the courts and with whom he had been coinciding on television and radio debate programs: Iván René Valenciano and Oscar Córdoba, who heard the news in the middle of the broadcast of ESPN's F90 program.
Córdoba and Valenciano were filled with tears that they could not contain. For his part, Oscar Córdoba, with a lump in his throat, could hardly say: “It's hard. Understanding how hard the accident was and the news that came, one suddenly felt a slight hope that he would recover. Colombia loses a hero and gains a legend.”
While Ivan René Valenciano, took some time to write on his social networks: “So long Freddy Rincón! I love you forever brother. Thanks for everything, crack!” ; he couldn't speak in the middle of the sports program.
On Monday Freddy Rincón was transferred to the Imbanaco Clinic, in the capital of the department of Valle del Cauca, where Laureano Quintero, chief physician, confirmed that the former footballer was in a “very critical condition” and that he had “severe head trauma”.
The accident was recorded on a security camera in the sector where it occurred, in which you can see the moment when the feeder bus collided with the Ford 4x4 truck in race 5 and calle 34, near the Pascual Guerrero stadium.
The former footballer of Independiente Santa Fe y América de Cali was sitting in the co-driver's position, so he received the full blow. “The vehicle that Mr. Rincón was driving went off the track and ended with a lateral overturn,” said Colonel Mariano Botero, commander of the Valle del Cauca Police.
