Naasón Joaquín García, who was the leader of La Luz del Mundo church, remains a prisoner in the United States, awaiting the start of his trial for various crimes against him.
Joaquín Garcia would face American justice on May 9, 2022. He is currently weighing more than 25 charges of sexual abuse, including rape and lewd acts involving minors, for which reason he was arrested on June 3, 2019.
The trial had originally been planned to begin on November 12, 2020; however, thanks to the legal representation team, it was possible to postpone it until January 6, 2021.
However, it was announced through the Milenio newspaper that a federal judge in California made a new ultimatum to present all the available evidence against the religious leader.
Journalist Laura Sánchez Ley reported that this is July 9, as her defense argued that during the trial, “her spiritual and moral reputation” has been damaged, in addition to noting that there is still evidence that has not been presented.
In this regard, the newspaper of national circulation noted, such evidence is called between the woman who accuses him and Joaquín García, the same ones where there is allegedly exculpatory evidence.
They also indicated that all the evidence submitted so far is pure edited and manipulated material, the objective, they clarified, is to make him look guilty.
Recently, defense attorney Alan Jackson filed a motion claiming that the California Prosecutor's Office “fabricated incriminating evidence, created reports based on false evidence, erased and concealed exculpatory evidence”.
This led to the position of the organization, which requested the release of its leader through a statement.
“We are surprised by the facts highlighted in the recent motion by defense attorney Alan Jackson, filed last Tuesday, March 15, which states that the California Prosecutor's Office fabricated incriminating evidence, created reports based on false evidence, erased and concealed exculpatory evidence,” they said.
Similar accusations emerged in September last year, so the trial ended up being rescheduled for May 2022. In addition, the amount of bail for him to leave prison is currently $90 million.
“We continue to pray to God and reaffirm our trust in the United States Judicial System to guarantee the constitutional rights of all individuals, including the guarantee of due process. These basic rights have not been granted to Apostle Naasón Joaquín Garcia who, to date, has been detained for almost three years without being granted an accessible bail.”
Thus, the Church of Light assured that “based on the motion submitted it is clear that his constitutional rights have been unjustly violated”, putting this as the main reason why he should be released.
Only in September 2020 did the man plead not guilty to the crimes charged against him. So far he remains imprisoned in the United States.
Nassón Joaquín continues to be the leader of La Luz del Mundo church and one of the most powerful ministers of worship in Mexico. He is the third apostle of the congregation after succeeding his father Samuel in power after his death on December 14, 2014.
