His name is Sebastián Ortiz, he is Peruvian, he is 17 years old and he is already part of an important Portuguese Primeira Liga team called Paços Ferreira, a team that previously had Paolo Hurtado in its ranks.
The young Peruvian Sebastián Ortiz was born in Piura and from a very young age his environment supported him to dedicate himself to football. His efforts have been rewarded, since he has been in Portugal for three years. Infobae called him to learn his story.
How do you live this moment in football despite your young age?
I thank God and my grandfather because on this path it has been thanks to him, who has instilled in me the abc of football. That is, the technique, respect, perseverance and organization to move forward and be where I am now.
What do you remember about your childhood in Piura?
It has been very difficult since Piura to reach an important team like Paços Ferreira. But I'm on the right track with all the respect I have so I can move forward. Agref has helped me with the topic of work for my parents. A very good path has been set up for me in Paços Ferreira.
You also had a visit to the Marcet school in Barcelona, how was that experience?
Yes, that is a very good story because I got a scholarship at Marcet for a month, which I won in a course at the Universidad San Martín in Lima, since Marcet came to take a course and out of 200 players I was selected to go to that school. They prepared me very well there and it is a good academy.
What differences did you find when going to Europe?
I felt a stronger change here in Portugal than in Spain, because of the issue of intensity. Also in Portugal it is a more serious club and is one of the biggest in Portugal. He recently won the Champions League against Tottenham Hotspur. For me, the change in Peru is very different, here in Europe. In Spain, I was in an academy, I didn't get to a club.
You arrive at Paços Ferreira, a club that Peruvian Paolo Hurtado has already played, how are you doing there?
Yes, Paolo Hurtado was here and when I got here they asked me if I knew him (laughs). And the road I'm doing is a steering wheel, at my young age. I like to be a more offensive flyer and give goal passes. I'm also a goal-scorer, but I want the ball to always pass by me and always have possession of the ball.
What is the atmosphere like in Paços Ferreira before a match?
In the run up to the matches, the talks are to motivate us to win, but they emphasize tactics.
It's important to have your parents in Portugal so you don't get shocked to be out of the country
I am very grateful for that, because I have the support of my parents here and Agref, since there is also Thiago, who is very supportive, especially every time something bad happens to me in football, I always talked to him. I also have my grandfather who I feel he always supports.
What is the plan you have with AGREF in Paços Ferreira?
The truth is that my plan if it is possible to have minutes in the Portuguese First Division, but if they give me the opportunity to go to another team it could also be a good idea. My purpose for this season is to play in Paços Ferreira's U19. Here the championship ended, with the U17 we were first in the maintenance phase, unfortunately we could not go to the second phase and the championship ended. I'm getting ready to play next season with Paços Ferreira's U19.
What are you emphasizing in your training routines?
In physical strength and intensity because I already have a technique and I feel that I am at a good level in that aspect. Here the change is very abrupt, that's why I work intensity. The first season I did not play because of my roles as I am a foreigner, but the second season and this season that I play I feel ready for this league. However, I feel that I can give more.
A photo of you with Renato Tapia recently went viral, how was that experience?
He is my benchmark, I always see him a lot in every match and I feel that I have more support, thanks to AGREF, because that day I went to see a Tapia game with Thiago's help and I managed to talk a little with him. In a previous team, he had a hard time, just like me, but it is very special for me to receive his advice. He is my reference and idol. He waited for his chance and for me he is among the best in the league in a big competition such as the Spanish one and I would like to follow that path of consolidating myself. Thank God I'm in a strong league just like an important team like Paços Ferreira
Did you have any contact with the FPF?
My parents and AGREF were talking to Victor Reyes for last year's U17, but nothing could be done about covid-19. Unfortunately my dream has always been to go to the U20 and wear the national shirt. That is my purpose is to move forward and be called to the U20.
Haven't you ever played for the national team? +
No, I never had the chance. The U20 would be the opportunity to wear my country's shirt and prove what I'm worth
