Holy Week: these are the 5 most watched films by Peruvians on this religious holiday

During the pandemic, many holidays had to be celebrated at home and the best option for most families was to watch series and movies as a family. This year, with the reduction of restrictions due to COVID-19, some people will go on trips to the interior of the country and others abroad. However, there is no doubt that many will prefer to spend time at home, accompanied by their family and watching some movies or series.

Peru is a country of great religious fervor and according to Kantar IBOPE Media, a media research company, more than 80% of Peruvians said that their faith is of utmost importance to them. 70% of people surveyed indicated that they were a spiritual person.

That is why they put together a list of the 5 most watched films during Holy Week, which have been the favorites of Peruvians for the last two years.

1. The Ten Commandments:

This film ranks first as the most watched and was released in 1956. It is a classic of American cinema and is preferred by Peruvian audiences.

The plot of this audiovisual material focuses on the story of the Book of Exodus from the Bible, whose authorship is traditionally attributed to Moses, who was an Egyptian prince, after being adopted when he was found in a basket on the Nile River, and as an adult he ends up becoming the leader of the Hebrew people, his place of origin. He was a prophet according to the Bible and was responsible for freeing the Hebrews from the dominion of Pharaoh in Egypt, to the promised land. In the course, he goes to Mount Sinai, where he receives the Ten Commandments from God.

This film recorded more than 5.2 million viewers in Peru, making it the most watched film in the last two years. Easter is a perfect date to enjoy it.

2. Jesus of Nazareth:

Who hasn't seen a movie about Jesus of Nazareth at Easter? This tape is broadcast on most channels, especially those that are open and primetime on good friday. Here you can see more of Jesus and the length of this feature is approximately 6 hours and has been watched by more than 3.8 million Peruvians.

3. Son of God:

This American film was released in 2014 and tells much of the Old and New Testaments of The Bible. The story is in charge of the apostle John and tells the whole plot of the old and new testaments of the holy book. It has also had a large audience and has been viewed by more than 3.6 million Peruvians.

4. The Passion of Christ:

This feature film was released in 2004 and was directed by renowned actor Mel Gibson. In this plot you can see the passion of Jesus, his beginnings in religious life and also the passage through the crucifixion on Mount Calvary.

The staging was so extraordinary that she was nominated for three Oscars in the makeup, soundtrack and photography categories. In Peru, it had a reach of 3.4 million viewers.
