Bad news for sports lovers who are subscribers of the Dish Network pay-TV system. This Wednesday, Fox Sports Mexico reported that it stopped broadcasting its channels on the “red antenna” service.
Through a statement, the channel owned by Grupo Lauman, said that its surprising departure is due to the fact that no agreement was reached between the two parties.
However, he assured that they will continue in an open dialogue with Dish so that they can reach an agreement in the future to continue broadcasting the sports grid.
They reminded the audience that their channels are available on other pay TV systems and on their Fox Premium digital platform, which offer different programming packages according to each budget.
For its part, the US-born cablera mentioned in another statement Fox Sports intended to considerably increase the cost of its channels “which are now left with less sports content”, so in order to acquire it subscribers would have to spend up to 50% more in their monthly payment.
Last year Grupo Lauman, owner of the newspaper El Financiero, acquired Fox Sports channels after obtaining authorization from the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT). The sale of Fox Sports was one of the conditions set by the IFT to approve the merger between Disney and 21st Century Fox in 2019, as both companies concentrated between 70 and 80% of sports content on pay TV.
Now that these sports programs will be able to be consumed not only through television but also through its streaming platform, Fox Sports Mexico will seek to reach the youngest audiences, who are the most difficult to capture due to changes in content consumption.
