The death of Freddy Rincón shocked the football world. After suffering a serious traffic accident at dawn last Monday in Cali, capital of Valle del Cauca, the idol of the Colombian national team died in this Wednesday night. This was confirmed by the specialists of the Imbanaco clinic, where the former footballer was hospitalized for the last few days.
Millions of sports personalities have spoken out on social media in recent hours. Former teammates, clubs, sports institutions, among others, lamented the departure of the 'Colossus of Buenaventura', who is considered, by many, one of the best players in the history of Colombian football.
Once his death was announced, the memory aroused in the heart of the death of another 'phenomenon': Diego Armando Maradona. When the Argentinian star lost his life, that November 25, 2020, Freddy Rincón was one of those who joined the messages of condolence through his Instagram account, where he also attached a couple of photographs sharing at different events alongside the '10'.
Similarly, the 'Colossus' made it clear that Maradona had an invaluable contribution on the courts and with the ball at his feet: “To talk about you, Diego, is to talk about football. My condolences to your family and Argentine people who mourn your departure. Rest in peace crack. Thank you so much, God bless you.”

With the departure of both idols, the fans took that publication and, although they expressed their sadness, they trusted that both will be able to share football for eternity: “Eternal Cracks”; “! I hope he welcomed you with a big hug! Goodbye Freddy! We will not forget you”; “They are already playing together”; “tremendous game I am going to lose myself in heaven. Thank you idol forever”, were some of the comments on digital platforms.
One of the most particular moments in history, for both Colombia and Argentina, was 5-0 at the Monumental stadium in Buenos Aires for the 1994 United States World Cup qualifiers.
Rincon dazzled that night. The 'Colossus' scored the first goal, eluding goalkeeper Sergio Goycochea after a pass by Carlos Valderrama; and put the third, contacting a cross from the left sector that he received from Leonel Álvarez.
Oscar Córdoba, one of the Colombian players who shone in Argentina, guarding the Boca Juniors arc like few others, could not hold back his tears in the middle of ESPN Colombia's F90 program. The ex-porter of the 'Tricolor' tried to give a few words about the death of Rincón, who was part of the historic litter of the 'Cafetero' combo in the 90s, but his voice broke after a few seconds.
Goalscorer Iván René Valenciano was also present on Wednesday's television program; however, tears escaped him in the midst of silence. “So long Freddy Rincón! I love you forever brother. Thanks for everything, crack!” , he later sentenced on his social networks.
