Flights canceled to Cusco, Trujillo, Ayacucho and Tacna due to air traffic controllers strike

More than 1,500 passengers on 15 domestic flights have been affected by the cancellation of their flights on the different airlines.

The strike of air traffic controllers has harmed more than 1500 passengers who have been stranded in Lima and unable to board their flights that have been rescheduled and canceled until further notice.

Flights to Cusco, Arequipa, Trujillo, Ayacucho and Tacna were cancelled at the last minute by different airlines while passengers waited in the departure lounge and at the Jorge Chavez airport counter to board them.

Rocío Espinoza, reputation manager at Jorge Chavez airport, reported that there are 15 domestic flights canceled due to this lack of air traffic controllers and expects that at around 2:00 p.m. the operation will be restored at the air terminal.

This delay in flights has caused affected passengers to insistently complain to airlines, whose workers merely indicated to keep waiting, while security at the international air terminal has closed all accesses so that there is no further chaos inside the airport.

He also indicated that “we are coordinating with Corpac so that they can go out and communicate possible solutions. I understand that soon they must be leaving and having a spokesperson because what we are looking for is that passengers should be clear.”

Regarding the situation in other airports in the interior of the country, he indicated that “what has happened is that there are no air traffic controllers, there are no people in the towers, not only at Jorge Chavez airport, but also in Cusco, Trujillo and Ayacucho, any reception for other flights is being closed and so any airline will not be able to fly to those destinations at least until 2 in the afternoon, some companies have even scheduled for 6:00 p.m.” .

It also recommended that those who are about to travel to other destinations to inquire with their airlines about the status of flights.
