Dry Law in GAM, Tláhuac and Milpa Alta for Holy Week commemorations

Three mayors joined the Dry Law in Mexico City for the commemorations of Holy Week or Major Week.

The measure was announced on Wednesday in the Official Gazette of the capital, so it begins this Thursday, April 14, which in the Catholic calendar is marked Holy Thursday.

According to what was published in the Official Gazette, in the mayor's office Gustavo A. Madero the suspension of the sale of alcoholic beverages will be effective this Thursday, April 14 and Friday 15.

In Milpa Alta, east of the city, the Dry Law will go from Thursday to Sunday 17, while in Tláhuac, the suspension will be from Thursday to Saturday 16 April.

According to the same document, any person who fails to comply with the measureshall be referred to the corresponding Civic Court for the imposition of the sanction that is legally applicable, in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Commercial Establishments, the Law on Civic Culture, the Law on the Verification Institute Administrative and other legal provisions in force in Mexico City”.

These mayors joined three others that had already announced the suspension of the sale of alcoholic beverages: Magdalena Contreras, Iztapalapa and Xochimilco.

In the case of the Magdalena Contreras mayor's office, the dry law will apply from 00:00 hours on April 14 and until 23:59 on Sunday 17. In this way, no commercial or public road establishment located in the territorial demarcation may market intoxicating beverages.

As for the mayor's office Xochimilco, the sale of alcoholic beverages has been suspended since April 9 and will continue until Monday 18. This measure has been imposed as a result of the festival of the Snow Fair in Tulyehualco.

According to the publication of the Official Gazette of Mexico City, the dry law will apply to wineries, grocery stores, supermarkets licensed for the sale of wines and spirits, self-service and department stores.

It was also emphasized that the regulation will take into account those mobile applications that market alcohol with home delivery or that give away this type of drink.

For its part, in the Iztapalapa mayor's office the sale of intoxicating drinks will be suspended from 00:00 hours this Thursday until 23:59 hours on Friday, April 15, this derived from the celebrations held in the demarcation during Holy Week.

This measure was published last Friday, April 8 in the Official Gazette of Mexico City, where it was clearly specified that the dry law will apply to all commercial establishments located within the territorial perimeter of the Iztapalapa mayor's office; this includes wine shops, grocery stores, supermarkets licensed to sale of wines and spirits, as well as self-service and department stores.

The measure will also cover any that is temporarily installed on the occasion of fairs, festivities and popular traditions on public roads.

On the other hand, it was emphasized that only commercial establishments with zonal and neighborhood impact that sell prepared food will be authorized to sell alcoholic beverages by glass only at the time established in their permit.

According to the Official Gazette of Mexico City, the purpose of implementing the dry law in the aforementioned municipalities is to preserve order and guarantee the safety of citizens during the Easter holidays.
