On the night of this Wednesday, April 13, the group stage of the 2022 Conmebol Libertadores Cup for Colombia continued with the participation of the current first division champion, Deportivo Cali.
The sugar team visited Corinthians de São Paulo on date 2 of group E of the highest continental club competition organized by Conmebol with the aim of establishing itself as the undisputed leader and sustaining the undefeated international, despite the poor performance recorded in the domestic league.
The match between the vallecaucano squad and Timão began at 7:00pm Colombian time at the Neo Química Arena in São Paulo and these were the payrolls of both teams at the beginning of the match:
CORINTHIANS: 4-3-3 (DT: Vitor Pereira)
Cassio; Fagner, Gil, Raul Gustavo, Fabio Santos; Paulinho, Gustavo Mantuan, Maycon; Renato Augusto, Jô, Willian.
DEPORTIVO CALI: 4-4-1-1 (DT: Rafael Dudamel)
Guillermo De Amores; Aldair Gutierrez, Guillermo Burdisso, Jorge Marsiglia, Christian Mafla; John Vasquez, Edgard Camargo, Jimmy Congo, Kevin Velasco; Teofilo Gutierrez; Angelo Rodriguez.
With two balls crossed on the right side, Cali scored two corner kicks in less than three minutes of the game. In one of Corinthians' counterattacks, the sugar team rushed and this is how Christian Mafla took the first yellow card of the night after previously fouling Renato Augusto.
Guillermo de Amores showed off with the first clear save of the game in the 11th minute after an approach by Jô sending a cross on the right wing. The Uruguayan goalkeeper knew how to anticipate the move to stop Timão's goal pass.
The other Cali winger, Aldair Gutierrez, saw the yellow card stock in the 17th minute when he cut a promising attack by Willian.
In the third corner kick in favor of Cali, Guillermo Burdisso was about to open the account for the Colombian team, but Cássio's reflexes were strong to send a crossover header of the Argentine defender to a corner kick again.
Corinthians finished his first shot in the 23rd minute with a ball crossing from Fagner to Fábio Santos, who, uncomfortable with the mark of Aldair Gutierrez, did not have enough precision to place his shot under the three suits.
Paulinho saw the yellow card stock in the 25th minute for a tough infringement on Kevin Velasco. At 27′, Paraguayan referee Éber Aquino took the second card to Corinthians after Gil's foul on Jhon Vasquez.
The clearest match for Corinthians was in the 30th minute after a shot to the goal recorded by Gustavo Mantuan. Guillermo De Amores masterfully held a left footed shot from the centre of the box after an assist from Fagner on the right side of the court.
In a new dangerous reaction from the right-back, Fagner, Corinthians managed to make a goal out of place. Gustavo Mantuan tried a deep pass but Jô was in an offside position when he pushed the ball to the back of the net. It should be remembered that in the group stage of the Conmebol Libertadores there is no presence of Video Arbitral Assistance (VAR).
Edgard Camargo hit Corinthians' goal powerfully in the 38th minute after an error in the clearance of the locals in a play that emerged from the feet of Teófilo Gutiérrez.
The spectators of the match were fooled in a free kick by Willian in the 43rd minute that narrowly settles on the edge of the stick of De Amores's left hand.
