Ukraine claimed an attack on a Russian warship

The Ukrainian army reportedly hit the Russian cruiser Moskva with Neptune missiles, causing serious damage. According to a Zelensky adviser, there would be 510 crew members on board

Maksym Marchenko, the governor and head of the Odessa regional military administration, announced through his Telegram channel that the Ukrainian army had hit the Russian cruiser Moskva with Neptune missiles, causing serious damage to the warship.

“It has been confirmed that the Moskva missile cruiser today was exactly where it was sent by our border guards on Snake Island! The Neptune missiles guarding the Black Sea caused very serious damage to the Russian ship. Glory to Ukraine!” , he wrote.

An adviser to the Ukrainian president, Oleksii Arestovich, confirmed on YouTube the Ukrainian attacks on the ship, without indicating its location.

“It burns with force. Right now. And with this stormy sea it is not known when they will be able to receive help. There are 510 crew members,” he said in a YouTube broadcast.

These reports have not yet been independently verified. Russian news agencies have so far not reported any fires on a military ship.

On March 24, a month after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Ukrainian navy claimed to have destroyed a Russian ship anchored in the port of Berdiansk, a city near Mariupol, on the Sea of Azov. Moscow had not confirmed that information. The Russian army rarely offers data on its losses.

On that occasion, the Ukrainian navy also claimed to have destroyed a Russian troop landing ship docked in the port of Berdyansk, in the south of the country, and controlled by the Russian army.

A statement from the Ukrainian navy claims that it is the landing ship “Orsk” of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Navy.

“The personnel carrier Orsk has been destroyed in the occupied port of Berdyansk. Glory to Ukraine!” , wrote the navy on its Facebook account.

Along with the message, they published a photograph of a large unscathed ship and two others, from afar, of the smoke in the port and of a burning ship, although it is not possible to clearly distinguish which vessel it is.

The port of Berdyansk, on the Sea of Azov, is of strategic importance for Russian invaders as a key point for bringing ammunition, military equipment and soldiers to southern Ukraine.

The cargo ship Orsk was in port to unload 40 armored vehicles along with 300 paratroopers, as well as Grad multi-launch rocket systems and anti-aircraft guns.

Berdyansk is 70 kilometers southwest of Mariupol.

Since February 24, Russia has been waging an invasive war against Ukraine with heavy bombardments from the air and from the sea and heavy artillery attacks.

The attacks have not been limited to military objectives but have also affected residential buildings as well as buildings that served as shelters for civilian personnel.
