Plans for the construction of the Bogotá Metro continue to advance in the capital city, recently the Board of Directors of the Bogotá Metro Company approved the route of what will be Line 2 of the Metro. Through more than 15 kilometers, largely underground, the construction will impact the mobility of the inhabitants of the towns of Chapinero, Barrios Unido, Engativa and Suba.
In the middle of the special session number 71, the general manager of the Bogotá Metro Company (EMB), Leonidas Narváez, presented the layout study of the second line of the Metro to the Board of Directors, with all the considerations and benefits it would bring. Finally, it was approved for the continuation of the co-financing route.
In dialogue with the newspaper El Nuevo Siglo, Narváez pointed out that “this is going to be a virtually underground, monotube line. Only the last station will be raised to make the transition to enter the workshop yard that will be in Fontanar del Río. We have that already very defined and we are on a path of work governed by schedules”.
According to information published by the Bogotá Metro company, Line 2 starts in the town of Chapinero, specifically, from Calle 72 and Cra. 11, where it will also connect with the green corridor of street 7; according to the Mayor's Office of Bogotá, it is estimated that there will be up to 360,000 trips a day in this area. In addition, this first station will be connected underground to the terminal of the first line.
Then the subway will continue with stations along Caracas Avenue, NQS, 68 Avenue, Boyacá Avenue and reach the town of Barrios Unidos. You will proceed along 72nd Street, crossing the town of Engativá and continue through three other stations on Avenida Ciudad de Cali with 80th Street, 90th Street and Carrera 93; to reach the town of Suba.
It should be noted that stations 9 and 10 will then be buried and will be located in the ALO with 130th and 143rd streets, respectively. Finally, the last station will be on Avenida Suba with race 145A, which is the only elevated station on the stretch, which is the one that allows it to connect with the workshop yard that will be in Fontanar del Río.
The Bogotá Metro company indicated that Metro Line 2 will have an extension of 15.8 kilometers, of which the vast majority will be underground. They added that along the route that has already been approved by the Board of Directors, 11 stations will be built (of which eight will be underground) and, it is estimated, that Line 2 of the Bogotá metro will begin operating in 2030, with 23 trains of six cars each, carrying about 45,000 passengers per hour in each and increased the use of the metro network in about 700,000 trips per day.
In the same way, they stressed that, thanks to this Bogotá Metro Line 2, the route between Fontanar del Río and the Historic Center of Bogotá will go from 72 minutes to 24 minutes, thus improving the mobility of the people of Bogotá, saving them about half an hour of travel.
Likewise, the junta announced that it is progressing in the consolidation of the requirements for the co-financing of the Nation and the District, of this important project that will benefit nearly 2,500,000 citizens.
Finally, according to the manager of the Bogotá Metro Company, Leonidas Narváez, this second metro line will also have a positive impact on the towns of Chapinero and Barrios Unidos and, in addition, it is expected that, during its construction phase, it will generate more than 5,000 direct jobs.
