Freddy Rincón suffered a traffic accident last Monday, April 11, in the early hours of the morning. The vehicle in which he was moving, in which he was traveling with two women and a possible fourth person, crashed into a feeder car of MINE. The former player suffered severe head trauma, so he was transferred to the Imbanaco Clinic in the capital of Valle del Cauca where he is in the Intensive Care Unit.

The chief physician, Laureano Quintero, said that, “Freddy Eusebio Rincón's condition remains profoundly critical, follow-up, diagnostic tests, radiological studies and clinical condition show no favorable evolution. As we stated from the first moment, their condition and criticality are extreme. The forecast is still very reserved. We will continue with all relevant measures and it must be key, I repeat, that developments are not favourable and that the condition remains extremely critical.”

After what happened, the mayor of Cali, Jorge Iván Ospina, asked the civil authorities to transfer the evidence of what happened to the Attorney General's Office. The local president pointed out that, “here is about the life, integrity and possible disability of a national figure. This is a relevant event of the utmost importance where truth must prevail.”

The vehicle in which the former player was driving was a Ford 4X4 registered in the name of Tomás Humberto Díaz Valencia. According to the mayor of Cali, he did not have the current SOAT (compulsory insurance) and has several reports of traffic violations. “He has four violations for not having SOAT and one per peak and plate. We have the information in chain of custody, the vehicle is in the yards,” Ospina said.

On the other hand, the secretary in charge of mobility of the city of Cali, María del Mar Solanilla, stated that “our Criminalistics team and within the framework of its judicial police powers, all the evidence was collected in the field. We provide videos, photographic records, the police report of the traffic accident and the breathalyzer tests carried out on the driver of MÍO and one of the companions of the van.”

He added that, “we accompany families and all those close to the former footballer and the driver of the Mass Transportation System who was involved in the road accident.”

According to research, Freddy Rincón was mobilizing in the vehicle with two women identified as Maria Manuela Patiño, 20 years old and Diana Lorena Cortes, age 43. Both were taken to the Colombia Clinic, one of them had a breathalyzer test but it was negative. The mayor asserted that he is looking for a fourth person who may have been inside the car.

Authorities determined that the van in which the former footballer of the Colombian National Team was traveling, crossed a red light on race 34, tried to turn left towards fifth street in a northbound direction when they were rammed by the Mio feeder bus. It is investigated whether this one was speeding.

Jorge Eduardo Muñoz, 28, was the driver of the Mio feeder that collided with the car in which Rincón was driving. He had to be taken to the San Fernando Clinic where he is recovering from a fracture in his left leg, resulting from the impact, as well as a minor trauma to the right parietal part of his head. His breathalyzer test came back negative.
