The disappearance of women in Mexico has increased so far in 2022. In Nuevo León, in particular, this type of incident has increased by 53.4% from 2020 to 2021 and, as indicated by the National Registry of Missing or Unlocated Persons (RNPDNO), growth will continue this year.
Similarly, as of April 12 of this year, 56 women are still missing or not located in Nuevo León out of the 284 reported, said the civil association Cómo Vamos, Nuevo León.
However, according to the data of the State Prosecutor's Office, so far in 2022 there have been nearly 18 reports of searches for disappearances of women in that entity, of which only 10 have been located. Meanwhile, in 5 cases there are data on their location, but they have not yet been located “and 3 more, which due to their recent complaint, are in the initial phase of the search protocol,” they indicated.
However, this is not the only problem in the entity that afflicts women, since during the first quarter of 2022 21 femicides were reported. According to the civil association, 54 attempts at femicide have been recorded in the state, “that is, a week they attempt to kill 4 women and kill almost 2 women for reasons of gender according to their own estimates with data from the Prosecutor's Office,” they said.
One of the most recent cases is that of Debanhi Susana, who was last seen on April 9. The last report on her whereabouts is dated the 8th of that month, when she went with a couple of friends to a party in the Nueva Castilla neighborhood, in the municipality of Escobedo, Nuevo León.
The version of her friends is that they allegedly left Debanhi on the road to Laredo, as a “trusted contact”, who allegedly works on travel platforms, was going to pick her up to return home, as posted by one of her relatives on Instagram. However, the trip would have taken place outside the platform.
It is also presumed that this guy was the one who shared the last known photo of the young woman, which was taken around 5:00 in the morning and sent to Debanhi's friends. From that moment on, she was not heard from.
According to the report of the Nuevo León People Search Commission, the last time Debanhi was seen, the 18-year-old was wearing a white blouse with straps, dark skirt and black Converse type sneakers.
As a result, an intense search began to find his whereabouts. However, on Tuesday, April 12, the authorities of the municipality of Salinas, Nuevo León, managed to arrest a man for his alleged involvement in the disappearance of Debanhi Escobar. The subject was identified as Jesús “N”, 46 years old. His apprehension took place in the Los Pilares neighborhood, in the municipality of Salinas Victoria.
Debanhi's father, Mario Escobar, has told local media that his family has received extortion calls saying they have their daughter. “We are checking all that information if it is true that they have it. Come back, we miss our daughter a lot,” he told Telediario Monterrey.
For this Wednesday, April 13, a mobilization was called to tour the area of the Nueva Castilla Motel, where Debanhi was last seen.
Finally, according to the RNPDNO, since 1964 to date, 98,949 missing persons have been registered, of whom more than 20,000 are women.
