After several days with the leading role of sprinters, this Wednesday came the opportunity for climbers to show their conditions. The fourth stage of the Tour of Turkey 2022 took place over 146.2 kilometers between the towns of Izmir and Manisa with an ascent to a first-class port at the end.

Argentinian Eduardo Sepúlveda (Androni Giocattoli) won the day's victory and, incidentally, the shirt as the new leader of the overall standings. The runner 'Albiceleste' launched a powerful attack with 4.1 km to the finish line and could not be hunted by his pursuers, among whom was Nairo Quintana (Arkéa Samsic).

The Colombian, who was one of the top candidates of the day, tried several offensive moves in the final climb (14.2 km at 7.0% average inclination); however, he was unable to cut off his opponents, who endured and kept pace. Remember that Nairo had to reduce a significant time gap following his two falls in the second stage of the competition.

Although Quintana could not win the stage victory, the ability to stay in the group of favorites, including Australians Patrick Bevin and Vine Jay, and Belgium's Harm Vanhoucke, allowed him to make a 62-place jump in the overall standings. The Boyacense started the day in box 77 and now appears 16th with 2 minutes and 4 seconds apart from the leader.

In the run-up to the fraction, Arkéa Samsic confirmed that they would try to win either with Nairo or with Frenchman Nicolas Edet. The squad shook the platoon in the first kilometers of the climb, causing a selection of runners. In this work, Dayer Quintana participated, who was left behind before starting the mountain pass.

In the end, Sepulveda won the third victory for an Argentine cyclist in the Turkish race after Maximiliano Richeze and Guillermo Rubén Bongiorno, in 2008. Likewise, and after more than six years, he added his fourth win as a professional. The most recent conquest was in January 2016, when he won stage 4 of the Tour de San Luis, in his native country.

In the final stage most of the terrain will be flat, again giving the sprinters the chance to win.
