Freddy Rincón's brother spoke about the situation of the 'Colossus': “We have to keep fighting”

The state of health of the former Colombia national team player is critical. The former athlete has severe craniocerebral trauma.

Freddy Eusebio Rincón is one of the most remembered players of the golden era of the Colombian national team, his legendary goal in the 90th minute against Germany is remembered and has transcended over time. 'El Colosso', who suffered a traffic accident in the early hours of Monday, April 11, is in the Intensive Care Unit and its prognosis “has not changed”.

“Freddy Eusebio Rincón Valencia continues in our Intensive Care Unit where he is receiving care from an interdisciplinary group of professionals, after surgery for severe head trauma,” said Laureano Quintero, medical director of the Imbanaco Clinic.

He added, “after this type of procedure it is prudent to monitor the patient's progress, so the medical staff has decided to carry out some additional studies on his brain to determine the steps to follow. At the moment, the patient continues with advanced support measures and his prognosis has not changed.”

After learning about this delicate situation, many have spoken out to send messages of support to the former player of Independiente Santa Fe y América de Cali. Players, former footballers, coaches and even clubs have all expressed solidarity with the situation in Rincón. His brother, Manuel Rincón, spoke to Caracol Radio's' Vbar 'and gave some details of what happened with 'El Colosso'.

“I talked to the son, he told me that he is stable. But waiting for him to react little by little. You have to wait 72 hours to see the reaction he has. People are a little quieter. Waiting and asking the one above to help us win this match. From what you see there is a little bit of enthusiasm. But that doesn't mean we got out of this and won the match. We have to keep fighting,” said Manuel Rincón.

He also pointed out that, “the son tells me 'uncle, my dad is fighting and fighting, he is playing the best game of his life', We are helping him, with our prayers and giving him to the Lord, to play the game and win it”.

Manuel Rincón also spoke to El País about what happened to his brother and the details his nephew gave him regarding Freddy's evolution. “The first thing he told me was not to stop balls at what people said outside the clinic, to believe what my family was telling me, which is the one next to Freddy in the clinic. He tells me that his dad is fighting, he is' warring 'and fighting with this, and we are helping him with the prayers. Freddy is serious, but he's fighting and fighting for his life. Finally, Manuel announced when was the last time he spoke with his brother and what they talked about, he assured that, “20 days ago I called him to talk about a topic they were playing about the qualifiers in the program where he participates; I gave him my concept, but we didn't talk about the rest because we keep him busy in their things between Cali and Bogotá and me here in Manizales with my training schools.”
