It has been more than two weeks since Juan Carlos Osorio stopped being the technical director of América de Cali. In the midst of criticism of the fans and differences with the managers, the risaraldense coach was removed from office and in his replacement came the Brazilian Alexandre Guimarães, who has not yet made his debut on the bench.
However, the problems do not stop coming both for Osorio and for the Cali institution. The South American Football Confederation (Conmebol), the governing body of football in the continent, confirmed this Wednesday the sanction against the Colombian strategist for the events that occurred on March 16 in the qualifying phase of the Copa Sudamericana.
On that occasion, America faced Independiente Medellín for the second leg of the continental contest. During the second half, Elvis Mosquera, winger of the 'Escarlata' squad played a ball with Juan David Mosquera, defender of the Paisa team. As a result of the encounter, the latter fell towards the technical area, where Osorio was located.
When the 19-year-old was on the floor, the broadcast cameras caught the coach stepping on one of his legs. The event caused the annoyance of the young footballer, who stood up and faced the then coach of America.
As announced by the Conmebol Disciplinary Commission, the Colombian coach will be suspended for three matches in the next continental tournament in which he leads. And, as a second measure, he received a fine of 10,000 dollars, that is, about 37 million Colombian pesos.
However, the problem also involves America de Cali, being the one who had the services of the coach when this event occurred. The institution 'Scarlet' will be automatically debited the amount of the financial fine for television rights or sponsorships.
According to the document, Osorio may file an appeal against the fine “within 7 (seven) calendar days from the day following the notification of the decision”.
Let us remember that, after the altercation with the player of the 'Poderoso', the risaralda coach apologized in the middle of a broadcast on the Win Sports channel: “I offer public apologies to Juan David Mosquera, I think my attitude was bold, reactive, inappropriate and untimely”.
“I have to apologize to the fans of America because I admire and respect her. The fact that in the last 10 months there have been traumatic events in my career has nothing to do with my reaction to the fans of America,” Osorio added.
Similarly, he stated that “I will be responsible, whether there is a penalty or fine, I will obviously pay it with my resources”. However, before finishing his speech, the coach sent a reflection to the Colombian public: “In a country with such pettiness, so much cheating, so much dishonesty, we cannot expect football to be the example to follow, it's not fair, because many of the reactions like mine happen when you have a high heart rate.”
After the defeat against Atlético Nacional on the 15th date of the 2022-I BetPlay League, 'La Mecha' returned to training this Tuesday at its sports venue in Cascajal. The main novelty of the day was the presence of the Brazilian coach: “Profe Guimarães returned to our sports venue in Cascajal to direct his first training session with the team,” the institution published through its social networks.
In the video you could see the greeting between the coach and some American players who had already been during their first period. This was the case with Luis Paz, Daniel Quiñones, Luis Sánchez and Cristian Arrieta.
The 'Escarlata' team is in the 13th box of the championship with 18 points, and on the next date it will face Deportivo Cali in a new edition of the Vallecaucano classic.
