Commander of the Army Aviation Division insisted that the 11 people killed in Putumayo belong to a criminal structure

The action, which took place on March 28 in Puerto Leguizamo, has been questioned due to journalistic investigations and testimonies of the inhabitants of the area who claim that civilians are among the dead

The commander of the Division of Aviation and Air Assault of the National Army, General Juan Correa, who was in charge of the operation that sought to capture or remove alias' Bruno ', and which ended up with eleven casualties on March 28 in the El Remanso village in Putumayo, clarified again, as did the General Zapateiro, Minister Molano and President Duque, that everything that was done within the military operation was within the International Human Rights Framework.

“I want the Colombian people not to have the slightest doubt either: we soldiers always act under the norm, the law and the principles of the Code of Honor,” Caracol General Correa told the radio station.

Regarding the participation of civilians, he commented that all those who were in the bazaar belonged to some illegal group: “When the military operation is carried out, it is done so surgically that we discriminate against the civilian population in this armed structure (...) there is no civilian population or bazaar. It's totally false that they came in shooting.”

In various journalistic investigations and testimonies of the civilian population, it has been said that allegedly among the civilians who had been killed, many had been moved from the scene of the crime for manipulation purposes, about this the General said: “When we enter, the first thing we do is that we secure and cordon off the place to that the competent authorities, CTI of the Prosecutor's Office, carry out urgent acts (...) two bodies of dissidents are found with their weapons, they recover them because they are going to be taken by the river. No one planted weapons or manipulated the scene.”

In the investigations and testimonies they also indicated that the military had previously entered the bazaar, wearing some civilian clothing before starting the confrontation with gunfire, this was denied by the General: “They have a series of combat uniforms authorized by regulation (...) they all wore their pixelated pants and we wear tactical divers that are for comfort on the ground. They are all completely legal techniques and tactics.”

As did General Zapateiro, he pointed out that they have investigative evidence of the operation that they have not yet revealed to public opinion. “We have been very careful not to say things related to the process, we respect the investigation. Our priority is always to preserve the integrity, not only of the troops and the population, but of any member of any structure.”

About alias' Bruno ', he mentioned that he had withdrawn from the bazaar the night before the military operation. Meanwhile, in the political arena, congressmen and opposition sectors are advancing a motion of censure against the MinDefensa Molano.

In recent days, a strong controversy has arisen because different national media reported a series of irregularities in the operation carried out on March 28 by the National Army in the Alto Remanso district, in the municipality of Puerto Leguizamo in Putumayo, where it was initially said that it was a operation against FARC Dissidents, and it was later known that 11 civilians were discharged, known as extrajudicial executions and which is considered a violation of International Humanitarian Law.

So Defense Minister Diego Molano, who has defended the army's actions and justified the operation by arguing that it had been prepared earlier and that the Bazaar event would have been driven by dissent, will have to face a new motion of censure in Congress.

The news was released by the representative of the Green Party, Katherine Miranda, who assured that the case released by national media and denounced by civilians cannot be ignored.

“The massacre by the National Army, denounced by different media outlets and especially by the civilian population, makes it absolutely necessary for all political sectors to come together to hold Minister Diego Molano and the senior army commanders to account,” the congresswoman noted in a video that she posted on social networks social.

He added: “It is not possible that human rights will continue to be violated in our country, which is why we are seriously considering calling for a motion of censure against Minister Diego Molano to answer the country for these serious acts.”
