Yesterday afternoon, the judiciary handed down 36 months of pre-trial detention against the nephews of President Pedro Castillo, Fray Vasquez Castillo and Gian Marco Castillo; and former Secretary General of the Government Palace, Bruno Pacheco. All investigated by the Puente Tarata III case, where the Consortium would have benefited from the tender of S/ 232.5 million soles.
Given this, Pacheco's legal defense, William Paco Castillo, described his sponsor as a “political persecutor” considering that a sector intends to use it to pass to remove Pedro Castillo from the Presidency of the Republic.
In this sense, the lawyer, who believes in the innocence of the former secretary of the Government Palace, criticized that the Public Ministry has supported the accusation based only on the statements of the businesswoman Karelim López, who took advantage of the effective collaboration.
“In order to have taken your case, I had to analyze the prosecution's allegation or request, and there it seems to me that it is nonsense from a persecutory point of view because the Prosecutor's Office only repeats what an effective collaborator says,” Paco said in an interview with Exitosa.
“I have taken the defense (of Pacheco) and I will continue to defend him because it seems to me that he is a political persecuted rather than a criminal persecuted. I believe in his innocence and I consider this to be an absolutely politicized issue,” he continued.
Likewise, the lawyer found the decision of Judge Manuel Antonio Chuyo to issue 3 years of preventive detention against Pacheco, who will continue to be a fugitive from justice due to death threats he has received.
“Three years for pre-trial detention is barbaric (...). Our country is the only one in Latin America where excessive prisons are imposed for the prosecutor to investigate,” he questioned. “There are threats, he (Pacheco) says that he has been threatened by both sectors: that of the opposition right that seeks vacancy and the people of the government supporters,” he said.
It should be noted that Judge Chuyo declared the request of the prosecutor Karla Zecenarro, who charges the alleged crimes of aggravated collusion, trafficking in influence as an alternative type of criminal offence, and aggrieved criminal organization by the State.
In his resolution, he explained that it is necessary to impose preventive detention, since there is no other measure suitable for Pacheco, and Castillo's nephews. It should be noted that the three persons under investigation are at large, despite being prevented from leaving the country. For this reason, this sentence will be computed on the date of his arrest: it was ordered that his search and capture be ordered for placement in a prison.
The 36-month pre-trial detention also falls to businessmen Zamir Villaverde and Luis Pasapera Adrianzén, as well as Victor Valdivia Malpartida, former director of Provías Decentralized; and Edgar Vargas Mas, former official of that entity.
PACHECO FROM HIDING
A few days ago, Bruno Pacheco said that he will not surrender to justice because he considers the process against him unfair and that his life is in danger. “How am I going to take pretrial detention if it is something unfair. How am I going to get right if I'm going to expose my life. They even put a price on my head. How can I return to my home if any madman can take me to life,” Punto Final declared to Sunday.
In addition, he said that, having been included in the program of The Most Wanted, where 30,000 soles are offered for information about his whereabouts, he has received multiple threats, but also offers from “power groups” to testify against the government of Pedro Castillo.
“Now I'm not only getting threats, but also offers. There are people who come close to wanting to force me to make statements that will give reason to a certain group of all the spaces that the government has divided,” he said.
